Evansville State Mental Hospital, known as Woodmere, did indeed have a cemetery (or two) on its grounds for indigent patients that died there. However, as I recall, all the graves were unmarked, and the exact location became lost. When Division Street was widened a few years ago to become Lloyd Expressway close to Vann Avenue, a number of these graves were found, unearthed and disturbed (earthmoving machines are not archeologists). At any rate, it is my recollection that the relics were NOT moved to Oak Hill, but rather to a single mass grave at Memorial Park, where a single large marker was erected. I don't believe individual names were listed on the marker, since a list has never been found. It would seem to me however, that a county death certificate would/should have been issued for someone who died in 1921, since the State Hospital was in the County at the time. A copy could I suppose be obtained from the Health Department or from whichever office is responsible fo!
r old records these days. A sidelight to this, was that the hospital did burn in the 1940s sometime, and most if not all prior records were lost in that fire.

Investigating a topic that has been taboo for years, two North
Carolina researchers believe President Abraham Lincoln may have been
the illegitimate son of a North Carolina farmer.
Catawba Valley Community College history professor Richard Eller and
retired schoolteacher Jerry Goodnight have written a book
called ''The Tarheel Lincoln.'' In it, they research decades-old
claims that the 16th president was born in North Carolina's
southeastern Rutherford County.
Traditional claims that Lincoln was born February 12th, 1809, in
Hardin County, Kentucky, are based on a statement written by Lincoln
a few months before he was nominated to be president.
The authors believe that Lincoln was the son of a man named Abraham
Enloe. Their book covers sources cited in Lincoln biographies and
includes interviews with Enloe descendants.
Officials at the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace site near Hodgenville,
Kentucky are not convinced. They say Lincoln himself said he was born
in Kentucky of February 12th, 1809.

I looked in the Browning Obits and found a Louis Eller, age 89, died Feb. 8 1922, (which would be about the correct age of him being in his 50s in 1889). Died at Little Sisters of the Poor of Pneumonia. Buried from Trinity Catholic Church. Former proprietor of poolroom at Sycamore and Third St. Retired 10 yrs ago. Wife died 3 yrs ago. Born in Germany; Civil War Veteran. Son: Ferd (probably misspelling of Fred) Eller, Chicago.
Sure hope I can give this to a descendant.

I CAN'T FIND HER IN THE OBITS HERE IN EVANSVILLE, WHICH ARE ON RECORD FROM 1900. YOU CAN LOOK HERE ALSO: browning.evcpl.lib.in.us
did she go by any other name, or perhaps remarried after the name prater? do you think she went by prather when she was in the hospital? they may of moved the cemetary at the hospital, to OAK HILL CEM. OUR LARGEST CEM, SO THATS WHY I SUGGEST YOU CONTACT THEM, I'M SURE THEY'D TELL YOU IF SHE'S BURIED THERE.

I found a picture in my grandparents old pictures of a Louis Eller and a Mrs. E. Eller taken in 1889. I do not think they are any relations, but probably friends of my grandparents, Martin and Mary Brauch Felthaus. I would be happy to give them to a family member. The pictures were taken at E. Popp, Photographer in Evansville.

I would first get a death certificate for him. I wrote to the Hospital and asked for records for my gt grandmother who died in 1908, and was told in the early 1940s that there was a fire and all the records burned, but I did get a death certificate for her that said she died at Woodmere.
Hope this helps.

Carl,
The only tiny bit I know about before 1920 is this from Michael Cook's Church Records, page 67:
LINTZ, Catharina Elisabeth, daughter of Frank and Catharina (POHL) LINTZ, born 8 Sep 1874, baptised 18 Jan 1875. Witnesses: John and Catharina LENGES.
At Emanuel Lutheran Church, Evansville, whose minister at the time was H. KOENIG.
Happy hunting!

Carol,
Thanx for your reply. We have much information since 1920 between my wife and her sister who were both confirmed at St. John's. However , it is Cornelia's father, Reinhard Pohl we are interested in. His wife was a Daum, whose family I am told was instrumental in forming that church. We are in Evansville several times a year so I will search Willard Library. Thanx again.

I am searching for information on the John Hewson family. He appears in the 1870 Census for Evansville (page 210A) with his two daughters and maybe a granddaughter, Fannie. It's Fannie's parents and whereabouts in 1880 I would like more information about. Hewson is one of the few early mayors of Evansville that the Vanderburgh website has no information on. Any help will be appreciated.

Carl,
Sorry I have no more information on anyone else in the picture besides my father, Edward Buecher, of course. Do not recall anything passed on about your Cornelia POHL from my father. Yes I was born in Evansville in 1941 to Edward John BUECHER and Pherba ELLIS. While I now live in California, I have a number of cousins still in the Evansville area. But I seem to be the genealogist in this generation.
I believe there are some St John's church records at Willard Library from 1920 and later that might give you some information about your Cornelia POHL. If maybe she married at the church. Or had children baptized there.
