I am researching my Gates line. I believe they came to Vandeburgh Co from Muhlenburg Co KY. I am trying to locate a J.P. or possibly Philip Gates and his wife Elizabeth. Also searching for a Michael Gates and wife Catherine Ann (Caty Ann) Gates originating in NC. Michael may be the son of J.P. or Philip Gates. Michael may have had a son born here 1837 by the name of Simpson Franklin Gates. I have a note to myself that a Michael Gates owned land in Vandeburg Co. circa 1830-1850. Michael would have been born about 1811 in NC. Any help appreciated. Thank you

My dead end is
John W Bland 1842-1900 that was married to a Lucy M Tweedy 1842-1932, they were in Henderson Co., Kentucky. I found them in 1880 census but nothing prior.
Since Ky deaths don't start till 1911 I have had no luck finding a death record for John Bland, and have not had time to go to Ky to look to see if there might have been an obituary for John.
Thank You
Susie

If anyone has any information on this line I would appreciate it. My great great aunt, Mary Salwaechter married Jacob Griess. They lived in Illinois in Wabash county. They had two children, that I know of. George and Mayme. George married Mathilda Raber and Mayme married Charles Raber. It is rumored the Raber family has a family bible that started with Jacob Salwaechter, my great great grandfather from Germany. Salwaechter(a)juno.com

I have an old 1922 year book of the CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL, Evansville IN.
Maybe one of your relativies has their individual or group pictures in this book. The faculty and the senior class are individual. The Junior, Sophomore and Freshmen are in groups. Naturally I need a name. There is a poem by LUCILLE EVANS and her senior picture. I can probably have copies made of some of the pictures. They are small but very good.
Deaths online are back to 1920, with a FEW deaths before that.

Thanks. Family history says that Lewis did die at Millikin's Bend - but not in the engagement. He evidently died of dysentery and was buried on the shore of the Mississippi.

I can tell you a little information about Lewis M. Littlepage. This information comes from the Illinois Roster of Officers and Enlisted Men.
Littlepage enlisted in an Illinois company on Aug. 14, 1862, as a private, and on Nov. 13, 1862, he was mustered into the Union Army in "I" Company of the Illinois 131st Infantry. The records do not say how he left the army.
However, a history of the 131st says that it arrived in Memphis on Dec. 7, 1862, and then went to Millikin's Bend, La., until Dec. 27, at which time the fleet it was with moved up the Yazoo River and "had an engagement" near Hayne's bluff. That may have been where your man was killed, although the Army records do not say as much.
At the time he enlisted, he listed his residence as Hamilton County, Illinois, which is due west of Evansville. You might find more information about him there.

<Does anyone have information about a JANE ONYETT who married Lewis M.
Littlepage on May 7, 1854, in Vanderburgh County? They had two sons, Thomas
(born @1856) and Lorezo (born @ 1859). In 1860, the grandmother of Lewis,
Alasha Hightower, was living with them. Lewis evidently died in the Civil
War on January 22, 1863.>
I see where Jane Littlepage and her granddaughter, Jane Stephens applied
for a civil war pension. The widow filed in 1922 and the granddaughter in
1929. Sometimes the pension file has a lot of information in it. You can
order that form from NARA. Go to their site to order forms you need online.

You could send for a copy of the marriage info from the county and it
should have her parents listed and perhaps their place of birth. I assume
that she had a brother named Henry, who married as above. Also a Jane
Onyett later married a Henry Halspy in Posey Co. on June 18, 1885. Could
this be the same person? If I find any further info - will send.

I am trying to trace the Gilbert side of this family. John Onyett married Emma Gilbert in Evansville, Indiana. He led a wagon train to California in 1852, and many of Emma's siblings (and her aged mother) went along. Some returned to Evansville, some stayed in California, and Emma's brother, John Gilbert and his wife Sarah were lost somewhere. They disappeared. My gg grandmother Easter Gilbert Newman took a clipper ship around the horn to California looking for her brother John but never found him. I'd be interested in any information you have, particularly the Emma and Easter and John's parents birthplace, names, etc.
