I found Binley Banker in the 1850 Census of Jefferson Co, IN and he was born in NC. Do you have this person in your files? My BANKER ancestors came from NC (I do not know where they were from prior). I am most curious about this person.

I am looking for any info on the Bohn family. I have some on the Schwaegerle family. The family I am looking for is Peter Paul Louie Bohn. His daughter Mary married John Schwaegerle. Their daughter Anna is my grandmother. I believe others in the Bohn family married some Schwaegerle's also. (Gus Schwaegerle, John's brother married a sister of Mary?)
I am willing to share what I have.

Cheryl: I don't know who has the records, or even if a complete list exists. Willard Library "may" have some listings. I seriously doubt if the township assessor does. Perry township maintains only about 3 cemeteries, and this is not one of them. The other thing is the name. I am quite sure that its original name was NOT the babytown cemetery. I live about a block from there and have known of its existence for at least 40 years. Up until recently, a few of the legible tombstones were leaning against a barn on the Scheller property. When Mater Dei High School expanded a couple of years ago, they were told of the graveyard, and they took steps to route their construction around it, and to somewhat restore it. Some testing was done at that time and as many graves were marked as could be found, stones or not. I believe the cemetery itself lies on at least two plots of privately owned land: the high schools, and the Schellers. I have always called it the Woodruff ce!
metery in honor of the Civil War soldier who was buried there. (His was one of the existing tombstones). And the Woodruff family lived directly across Harmony Way (then called the Harmony Road) at that time (1865). There are other Civil War Vets buried there as well. I see that a new marker for the Stinchfield Family has been put up. They were long time residents of that immediate area by the mid 1800s.
Perhaps Mater Dei High School also might have some records or at least know who would have the records.
Happy Hunting.

Hi List
Checking the Browning site I found a death of a Anna BAILEY
died Saturday 29 Jan 1949 aged 68 Funeral Home was Ziemer
& Cemetery is Memorial Park. I don't know who she married?
On the list of Relatives has grandchildren 6 great grand children 4 then it
has daughter Eva G COOK,
then has sister Mrs A GEST both living Evansville.
Brother Walter SNODGRASS living Springfield OH.
Not sure if Anna was a BAKER or SNODGRASS.
I'm sure that the sister Mrs A GEST is my children's line
& that they have mistaken & have put A instead of Sadie Mae GEST
nee BAKER.
Sadie Mae Baker was adopted by a John Snodgrass after been
put in orphanage when she was about 5 or 6. Looking at this Anna
BAILEY I'm not sure if she is a BAKER or a SNODGRASS.
But Walter is her adopted brother he is also on her death notice
in the same year 18 Dec 1949 also by Ziemer funeral home.
On her marriage to Albion Paul GEST on the 22 July 1907 just
had John Snodgrass 7 that her parents were dead.
I live I Australia would there be some kind person able to see if there is
a death notice or a obituary in the the paper of that time. Please
& thank you for your time.
Jennette GEST nee BYRNE

Thanks to all of you. Steve, I believe you had had helped me before with Woodmere. Thanks again. I am going to mapquest and get an idea where this area is. There are other maps under construction for Evansville, but are not done, so Mapquest will have to do for now, unless anyone knows of a better map. My gggrandfather, Nicholas KAPPS had a grocery/saloon on on 4th and Goodsell in 1868-69 and my ggrandfather worked at Brommelhaus at 105 Upper First.
Thanks to you all again.

I believe. It was staffed first by the Sisters of Providence and then for
many years by the Franciscan Sisters of Oldenburg. The other thought is the
Gibault Home in Terre Haute, which for most of its existance was for wayward
boys...kind of a cross between a juvenile hall and a reform school with a
religious twist. It was staffed by the Holy Cross brothers from Notre Dame,
I believe. It still exists, tho its mission may have changed dramatically.

The Evansville Story, A Cultural Interpretation, p. 73, by James E. Morlock
was published in 1956. It locates "Lamasco between Pigeon Creek on the west
and Court Street (for many years known as Division Street) and extended
northward from the river for nearly a mile. The terminus of the canal was
actually in Lamasco from the canal basin on the place where it connected to
Pigeon Creek." (I think that the canal was the Wabash and Erie).
Then on p. 75, "After several years of dissension and bickering over the
name, the merger (with Evansville) was finally accomplished by an act of the
legislature in 1857 and a majority vote of the people of both towns with the
name of Evansville accepted."
"Also on p. 75, "Lamasco attracted many German people, who were coming to
America in great numbers af ther the Revolution of 1848 occurred in Europe.
These German folk were industrious and had a fine sense of workmanship. They
came to establish homes and wanted to do their part in the development of a
good community, looking forward to full-fledged citizenship.
Several churches with German-speaking congregations were established in
Lamasco or west of Vine Street in Evansville."
Hope this helps.
There is quite a bit more information in the book. It should be available at
public libraries in the area.
