Thanks for posting the Historic Crests for Evansville on the Ohio River. My
husband remembers going with his mother on the last train out of the area in
1937. A crewman sat on the cowcatcher poking a few feet ahead on the track
to be sure that it was safe for the train to proceed. His father remained in
Evansville and manned a rowboat rescuing people.

Found the flood crests interesting. I have a picture of my dad delivering
the mail during the 1937 flood using a jon boat. Dad said the mail went--
he rowed to the mailboxes on the homes. And dad was in the uniform they
wore then-- long trousers, hat, and he had on boots. He carried mail out
of Evansville from 1930-1968. Helen Zuber Keusch

Dear List,
I just received some marriage records I ordered from the County
Clerk's office last April, and one of these records makes me really
need to see one I did not order. But I don't really want to wait
another 13 months. Is there anybody on this list who would look up a
marriage record for me if I have book and page? The lookup might
actually involve looking at a second record if the answer is not
found on the first. But I have the book and page for both.
Thank you so much if you are the person who can help me!

Sounds like you've found something good!

Hi List
Would there be any kind person who could help me.
I just had the 1870 census for Perry Co hoping to find
my Guest as was spelt in the 1860 census for Cannelton
Perry Co. They are also there in 1880 census spelt Gest.
They aren't there in the 1870 but maybe in Evansville Vanderburgh
Co.
Albion Gest who is the son of Mary Jane Gest married in 1873 in
Evansville to a Susan nee Setchell & are there in the 1880 census.
Mary Jane Gest is with her married daughter Amelia Sulzer back in
Cannelton Perry. So maybe the family moved to Evansville in 1870.
Would there be any kind person could see if they show up in Evansville
in the 1870 census before I order the film in at the LDS here in Australia.
Also are there any early papers on line that you can see for Evansville?
Thanking you for your time.
Jennette GEST nee BYRNE

Yes, you are right. By reading ALL of the Schiffmans listed, I find that Fred's father was John (prob. Johann), his mother was Caroline, and that he had at least the following siblings:
brothers: Oscar and Carl and sisters: Emma Schaefer, Carrie Bough, Mayme Kleinis, and Norma Dubber. I should have read ALL of the Schiffmans. Now, I am looking for the information on Johann (John) Schiffman. Were they immigrants? I will look at the 1900 census for Evansville and hope they are there. Thanks for jogging me along. Marilyn
