Williard library has a number of city directories for the period you interested in. I have looked at some, like a 1929 edition. Their website is http://www.willard.lib.in.us . They might do some research or refer you to a professional. I would also look at the Browning obit database and local history database for the relevant surnames.

Karin, I have made no progress on the Hartig line (and I'm still not sure where Vanderburgh Co. is). I had to set aside the genealogy for awhile so my efforts have been minimal. I'd appreciate any help you can provide. -Caroljeanne Phillips

Lori,
May I suggest for the time period you are looking at, city phone
directories could be the most useful.
Would there be a collection at the Evansville public library?

I think we are talking about 2 different Laugel families. I do not have a Francis & Teresa listed in my information at this time. Do you know where your people came from? Do you know where they settled? A relative from CA sent me data. He sent copies of some records from France and from St. Mary's Church in Ste. Marie, IL. There is no Francis & Teresa mentioned in either. He also sent some information from James & Janet Laugel of Newton, IL. He is not sure how, or if, their line ties in with ours.
According to his information, our ancestor is John Laugel who married Catherine Bey. They had 4 children: Peter b. 1815; Catherine b. 1818 or 1825; Andrew b. 1820 & Sebastian b. 1828. Catherine was by ancestor. Her tombstone says she was b. 1818. The ship passenger list shows her as 20 when she arrived in Dec. 1845, so there is a conflict as to when she was born. Since people tended to have larger families and children were born closer together back then, I am beginning to wonder if there was actually only 4 children in this family. Perhaps there were others who stayed in France/Germany??? According to Pat's information, John Laugel died in Alsace Lorraine. In some records in Vincennes, IN the name is spelled LANGEL. Keep me posted as your research progresses. Thanks. Mary.

Mary,
My records indicate that Cleopha Laugel married Carl Herrmann 21 Feb 1860 at St. Wendel, IN. I have a copy of the marriage certificate from the Vanderburgh County Court Records. Her parents were Francis Laugel and Theresa Weisz (Weiss?).
Cleopha is buried at St. Joseph Cemetery, Section 9 Lot 246.
I only have records for one child - Cornelius Anthony Herrmann of Cleopha and Carl. He went by the name Anthony or Tony. He married Margaret Kleupfel on 7 Oct 1891. I have a copy of their marriage license. I have seven children for Cornelius and Margaret. Cornelius (Anthony) died of a fractured skull, as a result of a robbery.
I haven't done much researched on the Laugel family, so I don't how Sebastian would be related.

My name is Mary Noel. Iam related to the Laugel family. I have a Cleopha Laugel married to a Charles Herman on 2/21/1860 in Vanderbergh Co., IN. I have that they had 2 children: Anthony and Katherine.
There is a variation in our data though. I have that Cleopha was born 1858. This could not be right though if this is the same Cleopha whom married in 1860.
My Cleopha was the dau. of Sebastian Laugel & Mary Ohl. I do not have when they married, but I have that their other children were born 1853; 1860; 1864 & 1869.
SInce you say your Cleopatha was born 1837, I am wondering if she could possibly have been a sister to Sebastian. I will have to find and recheck the information sent to me. Perhaps I entered something wrong. Please get back to me. Mary.

My GG Grandparents were married May 1877 in Jennings County IN. They had my G Grandmother in 1880, and then I lose track of them. Does anyone have access to census records for the 1890, 1900's to see if they show up here in Vanderburgh County? DAVE and NANCY ANN SHADRICK. I noticed there are quite a few Shadricks in the current phone book for Evansville. Thanks for your time! God bless! John
