Dear Ruth,
In my previous response to your note to me about these families in Vanderburgh
County, I completely missed the significance of your "Maas" Surname. I
was up until after 4 am last night working on this line...and when I saw
your surname list, something in my memory knew it looked familiar...and
it wasn't until a few minutes ago, that I remembered that Frances, daughter
of Albert & Hilda was a "Maas". Please forgive me if I assumed you were
descended from Anna Rathgerber and you were actually decended from Hilda.
Please contact me at cjmartin(a)myexcel.com . I really think we could help
each other. Carrol

-------------------------
Dear Ruth,
Thank you for your thoughts. Yes I did get much of the information from
the Browning database found in Vanderburg County. It was a real joy to
find it...this family has been difficult to research, complicated by most
living descendants being unwilling to share their few memories. I have
two questions. I thought that the card with the 1940 death date, was the
error, since it would be an easy error to make if the mortician filled
out the original information a few days after the actual death, since it
was so close to New Years. With your experience from this database, do
you think I was wrong, and that it is actually the other way around? Are
you a descendant of Charles & Anna Huber? I couldn't help but notice your
surnames. Charles was Anna Rathgeber's first husband. Carrol Martin

Surname: IMEL, MAAS, HUBER, ALLINGER
-------------------------
Dear Carrol
You mentioned finding 'documentation'. This documentation may have been
the usual certificates of BMD, or the database of obits from Evansville,
IN newspapers: http://browning.evcpl.lib.in.us/
If it was the 'Browning Obits', then information below will be already
known to you. This reply does not answer your precise questions about parents,
Aunt & Uncle of Earl Imer - but may lead to the people who will supply
those facts.
Two 'obit cards' are included in the above database, both indicating that
the order of names was: Earl Albert IMEL. One of the cards appears to be
a 'correction note' of the YEAR of death - changing from 1939 to 1940.
[Would suggest the change may be dubious, since information originally
came from newspapers.]
Earl Albert Imel, 409 Sycamore; died 12-29-39 - age 57
Ziemer [cemetery]

Salem Meth - Rev. Carl Allinger
wife: Anna K
daus: Mrs Frances Maas of Chicago; Miss Charline; Miss Cora Lee both of
Evansville.

Evansville.

Louis, MO.
------------------------------
Earl Albert Imel, 409 Sycamore
d. 12-30-40 - age 57
Ziemer

There are five other IMEL obits in the db, including son Leroy, naming
his 5 children.
I did not check for your other surnames in the 'Browning Obits' database.
Wish you luck.

Surname: TUPMAN
-------------------------
Dear Charlotte
Someone in the immediate area will be more help to you. In the meantime,
I found two references, which may be boundary roads on two sides of the
cemetery.
Tupman Cemetery in Evansville Ind - on Upper Mt Vernon Rd in Perry Twp
Tupman Cemetery, Red Bank Rd., Evansville 47712
The full name of the cemetery may be "Alexander Tupman Cemetery". See the
web site below, which mentions Tupman and other Evansville, IN, cemeteries
- and supplies large database of obits: http://browning.evcpl.lib.in.us/
You may want to contact a local genealogical or historical society - for
further information, and perhaps publications of "monumental inscriptons".
Another source, where records may be available on microfilm: Church of
the Latter Day Saints (Mormons) - see 'Family History Catalog' via the
LDS online web site: http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp
-
To find a society: http://www.familyhistory.com/societyhall/search.asp
One very good one: Tri-State Genealogical Society, c/o Willard Library,
21 First Avenue, Evansville, IN, 47710, (812) 425-4309
Or - see Cyndi's page: http://www.CyndisList.com/society.htm
Wish you luck.

Dear V McIntyre
There is an obit on the [Evansville, IN] web site below - for Ada B Neighbors.
Also there are obits for Nora L Martin, and for Nora Jean Martin.
http://browning.evcpl.lib.in.us/
This information is for Ada B Neighbors:
Ada B Neighbors, died Monday, August 23, 1954, age 65. Address: 1930 Helfrich.
[Services by] Rv Newton Jones. Daughters: Mrs Thelma Branscum, Mrs Anita
Northern, both Evansville. Sons Alvin, William, Harry, Sterling of Evansville,
and James, USAF, Eglin Field, Florida. Sisters: Mrs Nora Martin of Evansville,

I am looking for anyone who has any information on the Imel/Bonenberger

I recently found some documentation on these families, and need to take
the next step.
The stones were read back in 1983 and published in
"Cemetery Records of Vanderburgh County Indiana Volume II"
by Carol A. Lantaff and Glenda K. Trapp
The book is still available for sale

Tupman Cemetery is listed on pages 176 to 225.
The Library has a copy of Volume II. I'll be glad
to look up anybody for you. I'm also trying to go around
to most of the Cemeteries in Vanderburgh County and take
a few photos to put on my web page. It's no problem
to take a photo of any headstones for you too.
The Cemetery is in Perry Township, Vanderburgh County, IN
on Red Bank Road 3/10 miles north of Upper Mt. Vernon Road

I am the great grandchild of Col. James Garrard
Jones. You had an article in your paper in
2000.
http://www.courierpress.com/cgi-bin/view.cgi?/200003/11+abolitionist03110...
The 42nd Infantry Historian (Civil War), Tim
Beckman, found your article from last year, and
has just sent it to me.
We are planning to place a bronze marker on
Col. Jones grave in Oak Hill Cemetery on June 23 at
2:00 or 2:30 P.M. We believe cemetery
personnel will be present. Shirley Glassford at
812-435-6045 who is the Assistant
Superintendent at Oak Hill has indicated the
mayor would like to be invited. We have extended
an invitation to him, but so far have heard nothing
from him.
My cousin, Connie Ponstein (Mrs. David) is the
one who seems to know most about our great
grandfather. Her address is 2532 31st St. NW,
Newcastle, OK. 73065-6542, Telephone:
405-XXX-XXXX. Her husband's email is shown
above. Susan is usually home in the evenings.
To keep us all up to date, anything you write
to any of us by email, will you send to each of
us?
Most of us are arriving in Evansville on June 21
and will leave on June 24. Some 42nd Reenactors
of the Civil War will be present. We are just trying
to figure out an invitation, and the program. It is my
understanding that Jones, Michigan was
named after Col. Jones. I could not figure out
why. Just on a hunch, I mentioned to Tim
Beckman, the 42nd historian, that I wondered if
Col. Jones was somehow involved in the
underground railroad. I come from a family
which has always been active in social issues.
Col. Jones is buried in Section 13, Row/Lot 45,
Burial Space 5. The stone is pretty well worn.
So, we are adding another bronze one which will
say:
JAMES GARRARD JONES
3 July 1814 - 5 April 1872
First Mayor of Evansville 1847-1853
Attorney General of Indiana 1860 - 1861
Colonel Forty-Second Regiment
Indiana Volunteer Infantry 9 Oct 1861 - 1 Nov 1864
Judge of Fifteenth Judicial Circuit 1869-1870
There will be Celtic crosses in the top corners.
We have hotel reservations at the Hampton Inn,
8000 Eagle Crest Blvd., Evansville, IN. 47715.
We will be there June 21-24. I really don't know
how many people will be present. It will be a
few people, not great numbers.
Jones Michigan is between Cassapolis, Michigan
and Three Rivers, Michigan. I have tried to
get information to determine if the town was
indeed names for Col. Jones. Cassapolis was at
the end of the underground railroad. So far I
have had no luck. Maybe you would have better luck than I in
trying to get information. The sources I have now
been told to contact are:
St. Joseph Co.
920 W. Michigan Av.
Three Rivers, MI. 49093
616-273-8666
St. Joseph Historical Society
PO Box 492
Centerville, MI. 49693
616-496-5695
I do hope to hear from you, even to know if you
received this message.
By the way, there a bunch of JGJones folk:
James Garrard Jones, Sr. My father. Died and
buried in Indianapolis on 8/8/52.
James Garrard Jones, Jr. My elder brother.
Alive in Copper City, Michigan. In poor health
and probably not be present.
James Garrard Jones, III. My nephew who lives
in Evergreen, Colorado. He will be present.
By the way, Col. Jones was buried from the
Episcopal Church in Evansville. We don't know
if he was active there. My father, and both
brothers are Episcopal priests. I am an
ordained Episcopal deacon.
Do you have any idea if Col. Jones home still
exists?
I do look forward to hearing from you. My
address is:

Hi!
Watch out for soccer balls if you visit Oak Hill Cemetery in
Vanderburgh County. 50 acres of unused land from Oak Hill
Cemetery, will be made into a Soccer Complex that will contain
13 fields, more than 600 paved parking spaces, and a main
pavilion with concessions and restrooms.
Oak Hill Cemetery was established in 1853. It is owned and operated
by the city of Evansville and has 67,000 burials including a 600+
Civil War Section.
Officials say they will turn the land back over to the cemetery when
it is needed and the soccer fields moved. I've heard that the land
won't be needed for decades or that it won't be needed for 20 years.
HAHAHAHAHA
Some links to the stories if you're interested.
I hope to have a Vanderburgh County Cemetery Web Page
up in a week or so. Hopefully I will have a nice list (55 so far) of
cemeteries and directions to them. I'll try to include a few details
and a photo of each one, if I can actually locate them.
