Surname: Strasser, Palmer, Schoenlaub, Bischoff, Horwitz, Peetz
-------------------------
Xavier and Anna Maria Strasser came from Germany
in 1846 with 7 children and settled in Evansville
IN (Vanderburgh Co.) by 1853 when Xavier and Jacob, eldest son, were naturalized
in October.
Jacob moved to Iowa where he remained and died
in 1912. Xavier and Anna ran a grocery, saloon and provisions store. He
died in 1869. She
died in 1888. Daughters: Appollonia (Emil)
Schoenlaub; Sophia (Phillip) Horwitz; Josephina
(Charles H.) Peetz; Franziska (Emil) Bischoff.
Sons: Jacob (Philomena Sachs) Strasser; Herman
(Barbara Euler) Strasser; Paul (Martha Palmer)
Strasser.
The Schoenlaubs, Peetzes, Strassers lived in
Evansville through the 1900s. I am trying to
find info on the Bischoffs and Horwitzes.
Paul's son W. C. and Cora E. Smith Strasser
were married in Sebring OH 1905 where Paul
and Martha lived after moving from Evansville.
Paul was a river pilot for many years, renewing
his license last in 1900 at St. Louis.
William and Cora had 3 daughters born in 1906,
1914 and 1915. Does anyone have the 1920 Indiana census for Evansville
who would please do a look
up for me? I would like to know where Genevieve
was born so I can order a birth record. She
died in E. St. Louis IL 12/1918 (born 6/02/1915) of influenza, as well
as her mother who was expecting a son.
Genevieve is buried in Oak Hill with the Strassers in the old section.
Cora is there, too.
Will be happy to exchange info on these people.

Surname: Strouse, Gumberts, Kahn
-------------------------
The Strouse family settled in Evansville, Indiana (Vanderburgh County)
and Baltimore Maryland. Abraham Strouse and Benjamin Strouse went to Evansville.
Benjamin later moved to Baltimore where he and his brothers established
Strouse, Bros., a prosperous clothing store.
A Strouse clothing store was started earlier in Evansville. The family
story is that Benjamin and his brother or father (probably Samuel)hired
a painter to put up a sign. Instead of painting Strauss, the family name,
the sign read STROUSE. Not having enough money, the sign stayed STROUSE.
Strouses still live in Baltimore.
Am working on a family history of Kahns and Gumberts in Vanderburgh county.
Fanny Kahn married Benjamin Strouse. Please contact me if you have (want)
relevant information. ogburnwill(a)aol.com
