Death of Mrs. Morris
Evansville paper Dec 1,1883
One of Evansville Oldest and Most Estimable Ladies Gone
The announcement of the death of Mrs. Belinda Morris which occurred during
the forenoon of yesterday at the residence of Col. John D Summers, her
son in law, No 1011 Upper Third street, caused a general feeling of sorrow
and sympathy among the many friends of the family, and especially among
those identified with the river interests.
Mrs. Morris came with her husband Mr. John O. Morris, from Washington city
in 1863, and they have since made Evansville their home. Her husband is
known by river men throughout the west, having been one of their number
since 1835. The long life of the old people in the city has made them known
to nearly every one and the kind motherly acts of the deceased have rendered
her memory dear to hundreds of poor people who will cherish it as one of
their dearest recollections. Mrs. Morris was in her 75th year at the time
of her death.
Her husband (now approaching four-score) a son,"Capt. Buck Morris," and
five married daughters survive the aged lady.
The funeral will occur from the residence of Col. Summers,
No.1011 Upper Third street, at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon.
