OBITUARY - Benjamin F. Simpson
The Evening News
Saturday, February 24, 1906
Benjamin Simpson, one of the oldest and best known residents of
Springersville, was called to join his fathers in the eternal sleep, last
evening, about 5 o'clock, after a long and painful illness from dropsical
complications. For more than a year deceased had been an invalid and his
demise was expected.
Benjamin Simpson was born on the old Simpson homestead, in Springersville,
January 4, 1830, and all his life was spent there. He was twice married, the
first union being blest with fifteen children, eleven of whom, with the
second wife, survive. The children are as follows: Mrs. Susan Dean, Portland
Oregon; John Simpson, New Castle; Vincent Simpson, Richmond; Mrs. William
Kibby; Charles Simpson; Thomas Simpson; Mrs. Fabian Bickard; Mrs. Francis
Riggs; Mrs. William Maze, Jennings Township, and Mrs. Carl Foster and Frank
Simpson, Connersville. A brother, Frank Simpson, resides at Greenfield,
Indiana.
Mr. Simpson was an unusual character, unique and eccentric, but always
jovial and friendly to all. For many years he was a raiser of strawberries
and other small fruit and no other delicacies were expected more joyously
than those put on the market by him.
In his religious belief, he was a Dunkard and for many years was a follower
of this strict sect. The funeral rites will be under the direction of the
church, Rev. Toney, the pastor, having charge of the service, which will be
held Sunday morning at 10 o'clock, from the residence.

Mother is sleeping,
So peaceful and sweet
Gone from this cold world,
In Heaven to meet
Her mother and four children,
Who have gone on before
Her dear face in this world,
We shall see it no more.
All trouble and hardships,
For her, they're o'er!
All pains and sorrows,
She shall have them no more
In Heaven -- God bless her,
She is peacefully at rest,
For there is no more suffering
In the land of the blessed.
