Helo to all,
I think some of comments made in the message on Union Co., marriages maybe
misleading. Early settler's of what is known as Union Co., Indiana to-day
went through a lot of change. Although the Indiana Territory was formed in
1800, it was not until 1803 that a pie shaped wedge was transferred from Ohio
to Indiana. The part that became Union Co. Indiana was included in this wedge
which is known as the Indiana Gore. All of the wedge first became Dearborn
Co., later divided into Franklin, Randolph, Switzerland, Union and Wayne
Counties.
Union Co., was not formed until 1821 and then was formed by division from
Franklin and Wayne Counties. Having done research in Union Co. at the
courthouse in Liberty. I have found some land records were transferred from
Wayne Co., to Union County. I did not see any transferred records from
Franklin Co. to Union Co. Some of the early Quaker settlers of Union Co. can
be found in the minutes of Miami Valley Quaker records. Anyone researching
this area, I would recommend a copy of "Early Settlers of Indiana's
"Gore"
1803 to 1820" compiled and Edited by Shirley Keller Mikesell, published in
1995 by Heritage Books, Inc. 1540E Pointer Ridge Place, Bowie, MD 20716. I
find it to be very useful in understanding the complex changes in the
formation of counties and possible location of records.
