Gary - That is SAND RUN cemetery. It was gone before the cemetery survey was done by the
DAR. According to Mary Brandenburg in the 1988 history book page 85 "Sand Run
cemetery can easily be passed, undetected. It lays within a bend in the road (550S) at
its crossing of Sand Run road. There are no standing stones but, under the sod, markers
remain. It was named for the little creek that runs close by. In the early 1900's,
near the center of the cemetery, a wooden fence enclosed an Orr lot. Members of the Hand
family are buried there. Of particular sorrow for school children was a small marker for
a little Hand Lad. The cemetery is located across the road and east of the site of Sand
Run School......"
It would be nice if we could raise the stones....but since our CEMETERY COMMITTE can't
seem to get it's act together and meet I guess we may have to wait. Meanwhile our
cemeteries disappear alittle each day...(Aventar's Soapbox) (I am a member of this
committe and none of the other members seem to be able to work out a meeting time So I go
the the cemeteries myself and work as I can. It is kinda hard being a one person cemetery
committe).
Anyway. Young Cemetery is located on .... jeeze I can't tell you the road. You turn
infront of the Methodist Church in CC and go past the grove heading for Stone Road. Young
Cemetery is just a few stones on the right hand side. They are still there. I saw them
the last time I went by.
Now, Harter Cemetery is quite near CC Cemetery. College Corner Cemetery was originally
the Ridenour family Cemetery. When you stand in the new section of CCcem, turn and face
due west. Now if you look south west you will see a grove of trees. Walk BEHIND that
grove of trees and enter. You won't go very far until you find the stones. The trees
have taken over the cemetery. I guess it use to be pretty good size but now there are
maybe six, seven stones you can find. It would be possible that James and Mary Ward might
have been buried there, but I really doubt it.
Hope it helps.
