Rick, I really haven't seen too much on your James Ward.
I do know that James Ward married 9 January 1834, Union County, Indiana, Mary Rigsby,
daughter of Margaret (Clark) Rigsby.
They had 6 children: Leander, Sarah, Adney, Samuel, George and Perry M.
I thought James Ward's father might be Benjamin Ward (the letter cutter) whose wife in
1860 is Naomi. My thinking on this was because James indicated his father was born in New
Jersey and his mother was born in Virginia on the 1880 census. On the 1860 census,
Benjamin Ward indicates he was born in New Jersey and Naomi indicates she was born in
Virginia. Naomi couldn't be James Ward's mother, but sometimes I've seen
where the children put the birthplace of their step-parents on the census instead of their
birth parents. I don't know who Benjamin's first wife is.
A Benjamin Ward did marry a Naomi Morgan on 6 March 1836 in Fairfield County, Ohio. There
is a W. A. Morgan, age 25, and a Mary E. Morgan, age 1, living at the residence of
Benjamin Ward, wife Naomi, on the 1860 census.
Adney was counted twice on the 1850 and the 1860 census. In 1850, he was not only listed
with his parents, but also at the Daniel Brown residence. He was in Harmony Township,
Union County, Indiana in that year. In 1860, Adney was listed with his parents and also
at the Nathaniel Austin residence. He was in Union Township, Union County, Indiana, Post
Office: College Corner on July 28, 1860 with parents. When Adney was with the Nathaniel
Austin residence, he was in Harmony Township, Union County, Indiana, Post Office:
Billingsville, on 30 June 1860.
