Yes, there are several history books for Union County, Indiana. I don't recall which
of them are in the excellent local library (which you can find on the Internet), as I
consulted them at the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne (which can also be found
on the Internet, along with its entire catalog -- wonderful resource). I'll list
these books with their ACPL call numbers:
J. H. Beers & Co. – Atlas of Union County, Indiana, to Which Are Added Various General
Maps, History, Statistics, Illustrations, &c. &c. &c., 1884, 977.201 Un3b
Oversize
Biographical and Genealogical History of Wayne, Fayette, Union and Franklin Counties,
Indiana, 2 vols., 1899, 977.2 B523B
Leading Industries of the Principal Places in Union, Fayette, Rush and Shelby Counties,
Indiana, 1884, 977.2 L46
Various authors – Sesquicentennial Historical Record Commemorating the 150th Anniversary
of Union County, Indiana, 1821-1971, 1971, 977.201 Un3uns
Finally, and perhaps the most valuable resource of all, all of these history books have
been indexed by surname in Riker, Dorothy – Union County, Indiana: Index of Names of
Persons and of Firms, 1981, 977.201Un3ic
The ACPL does not lend any books by interlibrary loan, but if you have any Indiana
ancestors, it's worth going there to spend time looking them up -- I spent 10 days
there and couldn't get everything! There are also many volumes of transcribed records
for Union County: marriages, court records, cemeteries, land entry books, tax records,
assessment records. The library in Liberty also has an index of Union County wills
through 1880.
Hope this helps. One other thing is that I found that there is a great deal of overlap
between Union and Fayette counties, so if you don't find your surnames in Union, look
in Fayette. You might be pleasantly surprised.
