Thanks to all who gave me suggestions as to the circumstances under which
a Burial Transit Permit is necessary. I know that it was necessary to take
both of my parents cremains from lower Michigan to the Upper Peninsula for
burial (1990 and 1993).
The reason I ask is because I have Death Certificates for 2 of my great
grandparents, but have no idea where they are buried, and wonder if trying to
find BTPs would be of help. After the remains reach the cemetery, where
would the Burial Permits be kept? With the Cemetery Records? With the
Funeral Home? With the state or county? Thanks for any more help.
I know the cemetery where other family members are buried; there also is
a lovely marker with the family name, but no given names; and the cemetery
records do not list my gg gparents as being buried there, although Thomas'
obituary indicates that he is buried there. I thought finding a BTP might
shed some light on the cemetery to which they had been taken.
