Tim,
I had hoped to come to your workshop this fall, but last minute circumstances kept me from
doing so. Do you know when you and your wife will be holding another one? I am presently
attempting to do some upkeep on the cemetery in New Fairfield, Franklin County, IN, but
the weather is changing, making it almost impossible to do. I have uncovered a few flat
markers so far, but I have not been able to locate several flat markers where the map
shows a marker. However, there are markers where the map does not indicate one is there.
One thing I have learned is that a good number of people want a cemetery to be taken care
of, but don't want to donatte any of their time. We simply expect everyone else to do
it. Well, my thought is that if we don't want to do it ourselves, what makes us think
anyone else wants to do it? I attended a meeting presented by the DNR about 3-5 months
ago in Danville, IN and was told that they would assist me in obtaining details on a
couple cemeteries so it could be determined if the cemetery was on private land or not. I
have emailed the speaker at least 2 times and have not received a response. So even when
you ask for help from someone who wants you to be active in cemetery restoration, the help
isn't always there. Sometimes you just have to take the bull by the horns. That
doesn't mean upsetting people, but that you just have to do it yourself if you want it
to get done.
