Cindy,
I am sorry that you were unable to make it. I understand your frustration. We had 25
people interested in the workshop. 10 showed up. Which I expected a few conflicts. The
following couple of Saturdays after the workshop we had a couple of mini workdays to
finish work on the cemetery. We had one person that was able to make it to two of the
three workdays. Cemetery restoration is hard work and it is hard to get people to
dedicate their time for it. I do not know about any more workshops but we will probably
hold some workdays. I would be glad to show anybody cemetery restoration if they are
willing to come out.
By all means, I am friendly with the township trustees that I deal will. If you get
hostile, they would probably go into a shell and not do anything. I like to inform them
(of their job duties ) and try to encourage them.
If you need to find out about a cemetery, you just need to go to the courthouse and they
will be able to tell you about the land. Usually if the cemetery is a family cemetery, it
will be on private land. If it is associated with a Church, it will be on non-taxable
land, separate from the private land. But this is not always the case.
I wish you all the luck in your projects, and I will keep you informed on any cemetery
restoration days in Wayne County.
Tim
