Wow, I would like to see a paper for the 1840's.
The state library has microfilmed all the existing newspapers for Union County. These are
very very scattered and finding an obituary in them is very hard. Sometimes it may just
be a blurb like "Died. John Doe 7th of this month". If you were more prominent
you may get quite a few lines of recognition, but it may be put in the paper weeks after
you died.
There are a few papers for: 1852 - 1854 - 1855 - 1856 - 1857 - 1858 - 1859 - 1860 - 1861 -
1862 - 1868 - 1869 - 1871 - 1872 - 1874 - 1875 - 1876 - 1877 - 1881
Some years have as many as 30-40 papers but others have maybe 1 or two. The chances of
you finding an obit are slim.

"Ok...there is a dent in the brick wall and my head hurts, now what?!?!?"
