Dear Union County List Members:
I hope someone on the list will be able to give me some answers. When
I
was in Union County three years ago I could not find and the good
staff at
the Library could not answer my questions. In reading several posts I am
finding that there were indeed several Irish families in your fair county.
My family (Francis & Margaret Perkins children: Ambrose, Bridget, John,
Mary, Thomas) lived near Clifton and belonged to St. Bridgets. Where in
Union County did the Irish tend to settle and why were they there? My
people were Irish railroad workers (a master stonemason who built
bridges).
What year did the railroad(s) reach Liberty or Union County? I also
know
that the Whitewater Canal was to the West but it might have been too far
away. Thank you in advance.

Hello Kevin,
My ancestors were also Irish and they settled in Liberty. I have also tried
to find out why they settled there. My ancestors came directly from Ireland
and went to Liberty. I don't know if they knew someone or if they knew there
was work. I have not found any history to explain the group of Irish there.
Maybe someone knows more of the history of the Irish population in Liberty.
