I show a William C. Appleton enlisted as a private in the 15th Indiana
Infantry,co I on 6/14/1861. His residence was Union County,Indiana. He
was reported as deserting on 8/31/1862 at Louisville,KY. His mother(Mariana
Appleton) appplied for a pension on 2/4/1868,number 157,267
Also show a W. C. Appleton enlisted as a private in the 105th Indiana Infantry,co
B on 7/10/1863. His residence was Union County,Indiana. He mustered out
on 7/18/1863 at Indianapolis,Indiana. The 105th was a "minute man" regiment
that was organized to combat "Morgan's Raid" in southern Indiana in July
1863.The battle at Corydon was fought on July 9,1863,with regiments organized
the day after the battle and few seeing any fighting.
I only found 6 Appleton's from Indiana that served.
