Bill Huston:
I have searched for your family for 10 years!! I am so happy to hear from you. My great
grandmother, Elizabeth Helen Huston, is the youngest sister of your Elbert P. Huston.
Elizabeth was called "Bettie." She married Lewis Richard Lupton, in
Harrisonburg, Va. Her sister, Mary Jane Huston, married Lewis Lupton's brother, Isaac
Briscoe Lupton, in Craig Co., Va.
These two couples followed George Robert and John H. Huston (brothers of the Huston women)
to Comanche Co., Tx.
John H. Huston returned to Va. several years later, found a wife, and convinced his
mother, Margaret Smith Huston, to move to Tx. She died in Comanche Co., Tx. Her husband,
David Nathan Huston had died in Craig Co., Va. of typhoid fever, during Civil War. They
also lost a son, William S. Huston, at Battle of Seven Pines, Va.
John Huston's wife, Sarah Ann "Nannie" Blankenship Huston, was a lovely
woman. She and John did not have children, but adopted a daughter, who married Frank
Lupton, son of Mary Jane Huston & Isaac B. Lupton. I descend from one of the sons of
Elizabeth H. Huston and Lewis R. Lupton.
Both of the Lupton men died in their 30's, Elizabeth H. Huston also died young..so,
John H and Nannie Huston raised the three boys of Elizabeth Huston Lupton, as well as
Frank Lupton, who married their adopted daughter. Mary Jane Huston Lupton returned to
Va., married (2) a man from Washington, DC. I don't think she had children from this
marriage. She is buried next to Isaac Briscoe Lupton, and his mother and other siblings,
in Harrisonburg, Va.
Please stay in touch, can't wait to hear from you again.
I have diaries of my grandfather's, which make mention of your Elbert's trip to
Texas. I have so many things to share...but, I am leaving on a trip in the morning, will
be gone a couple weeks. Will get back to you at that time. Please contact me at
SOLivingston(a)prodigy.net.
George Robert Huston married in Va., prior to coming to Texas, had lots of children. His
descendants live in New Mexico. One still owns the old homestead, which was a large ranch
at one time. Another descendant is on the Board of Directors at the Cowboy Hall of Fame
in Oklahoma City. He is very interested in genealogy, we are sharing info.
