I am the great grandson of Elbert P. Huston, the grandson of James Elbert Huston, and the
son of John Robert Huston. According to a Summer County History Book compiled and
published in 1907, E.P. Huston was a private in the 62nd Virginia Infantry. I recognize
many of the names mentioned in the message that I am replying to. My father was
susposedly named after the two great uncles, John and Robert. I don't remember Aunt
Fannie because she died before I was born; however, I do remember Uncle Los Rhodes. In
fact I remember visiting Uncle Los on his death bed and we discussed his father's
photo which was on the dresser near his bed. His father was wearing a confederate
uniform. I also remember the names Aunt Bessie and Reb Butler. I was very young when
they visited my grandfather .... but it seems to stick in my mind that Butler had the
unique condition of having several sets of teeth during his lifetime ... once he lost a
tooth ... another one would grow back! As I sa!
id, I was very young but a conversation around that issue did stick in my mind. Another
slight memory that I recall ... my father was given a little "pack mule
figurine" by Robert or the uncle who had lost a leg. My oldest brother, John Robert
still has that little pack mule and lives in Pittsboro, North Carolina. My second oldest
brother, Thomas Edwin lives in Huntington, W. Va. and my 3rd oldest, Franklin D. lives in
Orlando, Florida. I live in Ridgecrest, California and I am the youngest of the four sons
born to John Robert Huston, Sr. and his wife Eleanor Louise (Snead) Huston. I did quite a
bit of research while living in the Washington, D.C. area back in the late 60's and
early 70's. However, I was never able to complete the circle or get a handle on John
or Robert. I recently communicated with a James Blankenship who filled in some of the
missing information. However, I would dearly like to know more about Robert, the one who
lost his leg and supposedly was a !
courier for Robert E. Lee.
