Hello -- I'm new to the Union list. I'm researching the names SURBER/SERBER
and WOODS.
My brick wall in Union: On March 2, 1833, in Union County, Lavina WOODS
married William SERBER. None of their descendants seem to have any
information about them beyond that William was born in TN about 1807, and
Lavina in Virginia about 1810. (These bits of information are from census
data from the 1850 Shelby County IN census where they were living then.)
William Surber (deaf) (often mis-spelled SERBER) was the brother of my
g.grandfather, Andrew Surber who was b. in Ohio. They are believed to be
the sons of Jacob Surber Junior b. in Shenandoah Co., VA
There were several Woods families in Union County in 1830:
From the 1830 listing of Union County Census index, I find 4 Woods
families:
Woods, Alexander (Page) 232
Woods, Andrew 242
Woods, James 245
Woods, William 251
Does anyone recognize these families? Could they be Lavina's people? She
sometimes spelled her name "Lovinda."
I think that William Surber may have been married prior to his marriage to
Lavina, as his oldest son, Thomas Surber, was apparently born two or three
years before their marriage.
