I feel certain his was William although everyone called him Wil. I recall
seeing him on the golf course in the early thirties. His home and office
was on South Main St. on the west side of the street, a large house. It is
still standing. There is a young girl in the Union county Library who is
very active in genealogy I don't recall her name. It might be a good idea
to call or write the Library before you make the trip to learn the hours
that the Court House, Library and Historical Society keep. The H Soc. is
not open every day. If you have problems getting the information let me know
and I will have my sister find out for me. I feel certain he would have had
a will which would be recorded in the Court House.

HI Mr Sharp!
I can't thank you enough for taking the time to write me. I actually have
goose bumps! I have never in my 40 years, known anyone who knew my great
grandfather!
It is going to be a very hard task in front of me. My father, who is
still
alive, recalls very little about his grandfather (Will/Doc) as my
grandmother
and grandfather divorced, when he was just 2. My grandfather,
Clarence,
was
an alcoholic...a really "bad" one, from what I understand.
He was a
dentist, but then "lost it all" and wound up living on the streets of
Chicago
for a while. I have also learned, that he was one of the supposed
founding
members of Alcoholics Anonymous and started a local chapter in
Indianapolis.
>From what I can gather, this was a pretty secret society back
then and
not a
subject that people discussed. Although, I feel quite proud of him.
Anyway, my grandmother (Clarence's ex wife) died long ago. There are no
records or anything. I have no birth/death/marriage dates, and only a few
names (the one's I mentioned to you). Would you have any idea when he
died?
Or how old he would have been, when he died?
My father, John, did go to visit occasionally, when he was a boy. He was
born in 1938. You don't by any chance remember him, do you? Do you
recall
if Doc's name was actually William?
I know I am asking a million questions. It's just so neat to have heard
from
you! I am going to go suggest to my husband that we take a trip to
Liberty!
Thanks so much. I really do appreciate it!

I knew Dr. Thompson when I was a boy living in Liberty. I remember Ned ,
I
believe you are correct he died of TB. I do not recall his wife but
I
think
she was alive in the twenties. Doc was the county health officer in
1920,
his name is on my birth certificate. If I was looking for
information on
him I would check for his will in Union County. I can't remember when he
died his death certificate might have some information. Also the Liberty
Hearld (the Local paper still being published) would probably have quite
a
write up at the time of his death. The Union County Library has
some old
issues. You might be able to get some information from the Historical
Society. They have an active group in
Liberty.
I hope this helps you.
