Last Tuesday Liberty had a Thunderstorm that spiked the Router at the Library. Our director was on vacation so we only have a "Temp Fix" that does not include having either the Union County Public Library Website or the USGenweb Site up and running.
Now that she is back I am hoping that Tuesday or Wednesday this next week we will be back. I have added information about NEW yearbooks that were donated to the Library. We almost have a complete collection of Libertonians and 4 yearbooks from Brownsville.
Also, new information will be posted on Maj. General Frederick Leroy Martin born in Union County and was commander of the US Air base in Hawaii on December 7th. He led an interesting life, but if anyone knows more about him, let me know.
Thank you
Karen

This is a long-shot but I'm wondering if Hezekiah Loree is buried in Union County. He died between 1850 and 1860. His wife, Elizabeth, is listed as living in Liberty with her son John and his family in the 1860 census. Any help would be much appreciated.
Does anyone have any information about the families of Martin Rooney and Ann Gararty who married in Union County, IN, in 1850? They had a son who was born in Union Co., IN. and they later moved to Edgar County, Paris, IL.

OK folks. Now that I can be positive that you will all pay rapt attention
to all of my taglines (unlike my other lists), the first one should appear
at the bottom of this message. This is the only one at the moment, but
leads to most information the average subscriber would want or need, but
there will likely be another one or two. If too many taglines are put on a
slow list, then most of them are never read so I have a version of this one
on all lists I Admin.

Only got the list this morning folks, please give me time. There will
definitely be some taglines in the very near future, just as there are on
all my other lists. :~)
David
Having been a List Administrator for an Iowa List, I was wondering if you
would add an automatic 'tag line' (for all postings to the Union County
List) showing your name as List Admin. and your e-mail address; and the URL
for the Union County Website.. We did that for the Iowa site I mentioned
above, and people automatically clicked onto the URL and checked out the
website much more often.
I'm hoping to see lots more activity on this List.. Thanks so much,

To all subscribers,
This is just a short note to say hello and introduce myself as the new Admin
of this list as of this morning. If you wish to contact me at any time, you
can reach privately the me at the e-mail address below at any time, or
simply put your question on the list if it is something of general interest
to other subscribers in general. I am looking forward to meeting all of you
and working with you in the coming months.
I am trying to find information on WESLEY/HENRY MELLOTT. He was married to
CATHARINE STRONG (daughter of Susanna (Gaby) and Richard Strong). Union and
Fayette Counties, IN.
I don't know whether WESLEY & CATHARINE were Church of the Brethren, or not.
Since CATHARINE's family were, I'm assuming she and her husband would have
been also.
They were (according to census records), married in 1876.
The 1880 Liberty, Union Co., IN Census shows:
Wertley (sp?) Mellott, age 43, b. PA; farmer
Catherine Mellott, wife, age 43, b. IN
George Mellott, son, age 15, b. IN
Richard L. Mellott, son, age 9, b. IN
Nannie B. Mellott, dau., age 7, b. IN
--------------------------------------------------------------------
The 1900 Brownsville, Union Co., IN Census shows:
Catherine Mellott, age 61, widowed; living with Harry & Nan Whetsel (her
daughter and son-in-law).
--------------------------------------------------------------------
I found Catherine buried in Brownsville Christian Cem., next to her son,
Richard -- he died 1912 -- she died 1918.
I cannot find her husband WESLEY/HENRY; Am wondering why he is not buried
where she is...

Tp. in Fayette County, she leaves to mourn her death two sons, one daughter,

I'd appreciate any help in locating him and finding out more about this
family. Thanks so much, Nancee(McMurtrey)Seifert at iggy29(a)sbcglobal.net
A few things of general interest, the most obvious of which is the new
prepend at the start of each subject line. I do all my lists this way in
order to identify one from another, so if your e-mail filters are set to
sort your mail by the subject line or prepend, then you will now have to
change that. My apologies for that, but I will not change it any more now,
so you will not need to do it any more.
Secondly, the list is no longer set to require all replies to go back to the
list. Simply put, this means you will need to choose either your "reply"
button to send a reply ONLY to the sender, or else "reply all" to send it to
the sender and the list. I like it better this way, both as an admin as
well as a subscriber, and it has been my experience that most subscribers
like it better this way as well. Unfortunately, it also means that many
people will now begin replying ONLY to the original sender and not share the
reply with the rest of us. I respectfully ask that you still send your
reply to the list so long as it is appropriate for the list, simply because
you never know what fragment of information would be of interest to someone
else. This has always been one of the nice things of the lists, you never
know what facts may come through your inbox at any given time, so please do
consider sharing your replies with the list even though it is no longer
required.
And finally, in order to spur a little activity on the list, I would like to
ask you to share some information with others. Here are a few suggestions,
but this list is by no means all-inclusive:
1. What is your current genealogy "brick wall?" Be as specific as
possible, and include all the information you can, so someone else can
"connect" and share with you if they are able to do so.
2. Tell us about one of your favorite brick walls that you managed to get
through/over/around or otherwise find information on.
3. What is your favorite research site online?
4. Do you have any interesting county history to share in general?
5. Can you do any lookups of county information for others? If so, please
say what it is, and state what limitations you have insofar as time,
availability, etc. are concerned.
6. Tell us something about yourself in general and your genealogy in
particular.
Whatever you share, please keep it non-commercial (no cost stated or
implied, please) in nature and related to this county and genealogy.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at any time.
However, please keep in mind that I am only a volunteer, and like you am a
genealogist with an interest in this county. I have a family, a job, and
grandchildren I like to spoil, so if you do not get an immediate answer to a
personal note please be patient. The only difference between us is that I
have agreed to administer this list and hopefully keep things going as best
I can. I will always respond as quickly as current circumstances will
allow, so please keep that in mind.
I look forward to working with you all in the future, and sharing our mutual
enjoyment (or obcession?) of genealogy.
