Margaret, this is a shot in the dark. I am looking for a John P. Hale b. c1867 in OH. His father was a minister (Beverly) Asmer B. Hale and their family appears on the 1880 US Census in Menominee, Menominee, Michigan. John's oldest brother Alton is married and has a son, John P. Hale, on 3/3/1890 in Harrison, Clare County, MI. Alton's son, John P. Hale, dies at the age of 16 in Bridgeport, CT. The full name of the John in the article you posted is interesting to me. Probably no connection, but Iam interested in finding out where Asmer's son John died and what denomination did Asmer belong to. Linda

Shirley,
I have some information on the Nickels Family that moved to Union County from Laurens District of South Carolina. Most of my information was provided by David L. Hanna as a result of a message on a message board. You may want to go the the South Carolina Message Board, to Laurens District and see the thread of messages starting in 31 October 2002 titled "Nickels Family in Laurens District". You may want to contact Mr. Hanna directly as he has excellent information on the Nickels family.

Now do you mean Nickles or Nichols? Nickles...there is not much. Nichols is Quaker and I have some stuff on them. Have you been to UC? What exactly do you need to know? Given the right circumstances I could trace any Nickles back from Ireland....but they might not be yours.
Hint to anyone out there asking for help. Be as specific as you can. The more info you give, the more likely you are to get help.

Boy, from the looks of things there isn't much you don't know about TW. I have a copy of the letter written by TW describing how my GGGrandfather George Sample died in the Civil War and also a couple of photocopies of portraits of him in his uniform. Now where did I misplace them? I obtained the copies of the photos from some government agency. He was a rather frail looking person. Since you have all that info I assume that you have found his grave at Earlham. If not it is easy to find.
Do you have any info concerning where Capt. Obediah Hayden of the 9th Indiana Cavalry went after the Civil War. My GGUncle, George O. Huston, served under him and was captured by the Rebs and sent to Andersonville Prison where he died.

A Time Line History the Bennet(t) Family of Union County and Thomas Warren Bennet(t)
1808
11 October 1808 Robert Bennett, a native of Virginia, purchased land in Wayne County, Indiana Territory. This area would eventually become part of Union County.
Robert Bennett (sometimes spelled Bennet) was born in Virginia. Although there is not certain evidence, it is thought to be Frederick County, Virginia. His wife was named Sarah, she may have been Sarah Sailor. There was a Sarah Sailor who married Robert Bennett about 1791 in Virginia. If this was Sarah Sailor, then her parents were Peter Thomas and Mary (Holloway) Sailor.
On 30 June 1825 Robert Bennett married a Sarah Weldon in Union County Indiana.
I am hypothesizing that Robert married twice and each wife was "Sarah" because:
1) His original land records state his wife was "Sarah"
2) Census records show that in 1820 "Sarah" was born 1775 or before; in 1850 she was 44, born in 1806
3) There is a marriage record in 1825 for Robert Bennett and Sarah Weldon and I can not find record of Robert having a son named Robert or any other male in Union County at that time named Robert Bennett.

Weeellllllll.......Liberty Indiana is sooooo small you can stand at the center of town and see all four corners. Liberty Indiana is so small we have two stop lights, but they turn them off at 1:00 am. Liberty Indiana is so small nobody thinks twice if you use your riding lawn mower as your main source of transportation. Liberty Indiana is so small that your teachers can't remember you from when they taught your parents. Liberty Indiana is so small that if you need a town cop at 10:00 at night there are only three places he may be; Shell, Energy Plus or .....heaven forbid, town hall.
Seriously. If you want more info on Union County, let me know
