URGENT REQUEST!:
Now that we are over the holidays, This years is our 350th Anniversary of
the landing of the Swartwout family in North America. The name has many
variations such as Swarthout, Swartout, Swartwood, Swathwood, Swarthwood
etc. We need help in gather lines, pictures, articles, wills, what ever you
have stashed in your attic. We would really appreciated it if you shared
with us what you had, there a literally thousands of us here looking for
our roots, looking for connections. For our 350th Anniversary we need to
updated our list of folks out there that are descendants somewhere along the
line of any of those variations. We also have a family newsletter that cost
only $5.00 per year, a real bargain. Just send it your mailing address.
Every day I get e-mail asking me for help. Up here in Canada, there were two
brothers that had huge families, all the remains of their descendants are
the female sides. All the male went back to the States. I'm am the
maintainer of "The Updated Swartwout Chronicles" People submit their
lines-ged-coms etc. and I just drop them into the data base. It is
everyone's database. Each person is responsible for their own submissions.

I too descend from John Brown and Sarah Weeks through their son William Brown who married Sarah Brown. They were married in Franklin county, Indiana in 1819. When the county split they now were in Union County, where they lived and died. I have some information on the Hunt family. Recently been in correspondence with a descendant of the Aaron Hunt and Jane Brown descendant. Aaron is later, after becoming a widower, moved from Champaign County, Illinois to Dakota Territory with one of his children. Contact me.

I'm not researching this family but I did see a Lewis Cameron in some census' for Indiana. But, you indicate he was in Union Co., IN in 1840 and the one I found was in Washington Twp, Wayne Co., IN in 1840, then Brownsville Township, Union Co., IN on 12 Aug 1850, then in Cass Twp., Clay Co., IN on 1 June 1860.
Family members are Lewis, Sarah, James M., Nancy H., Maria (Mariah), William, Clayton, and Jacob.

My Maddox/mattox line is form Union County, NC. A James Maddox was born in Virginia or NC in 1802. He had a son or grandson born in Union County, NC in 1850. His name was Samuel Maddox. Around the time of the War Between the States the name changes in the Union County census form Maddox to Mattox. I do not know why? Samuel then had my great grandfather John Samuel Mattox in 1877.
William Willis, possibly born in MD, received a Guilford Co. NC land grant in
1787, and sold his land in 1805. He was in Franklin/Union County, IN by 1811
and perhaps before that date. He moved to Union Co. with his grown and
nearly grown children by his first marriage, his second wife Elizabeth Rankin
of Guilford Co., and children by the second wife. His will names his
children: Trustrum, Levin, William, John, Elizabeth Waddell, Thomas, Robert,
and Sally. Additional information of interest: Elizabeth is believed to be
the given name of William's mother. An Elizabeth Willis, age 83, was buried
in 1811 on the Swafford property (currently in the same family), and that
land was adjacent to the William Willis land (located in Center Township).
Also, a man named Dillihay Willis was the bondsman for the marriage of
William and Elizabeth in Guilford Co. in 1793. He appeared in Union Co. in
the 1830 census and in Kosciusko Co. in 1840.
Any insights or historical perspectives into this family will be greatly
appreciated. Even though many Quakers moved from Guilford Co., NC to IN
during this time period, I have found no evidence that this family were
Quakers. Son Thomas was Methodist, and son Robert was Presbyterian. I would
like to know of a likely burial site for someone from Center Township in
1826. Thank you for reading this long query and for any additional thoughts.

Dear List Members,
When posting queries, it is so very helpful if you put the appropriate
information in the subject line, such as name, date if known, etc. Granted,
it must be kept to a minimum due to space, but it does help other folks on
the list know whether or not it's something that might be of particular
interest to them.
The reality is that many people receive multitudes of messages every day
from one source or another. So it is not unusual for the delete key to be
used to thin down mail, particularly when it would appear to have no
connection with that person.
So please, put a bit of information in the subject line to alert our
subscribers as to the content of the post.
If you just say "Looking for family," then it might possibly be deleted
by someone who may hold the key to a new discovery.
If a thread gets going on a topic, and the topic makes a change, then
please also reflect that change in the subject line. A lot could be missed
otherwise.
Also remember that messages can only be sent through the lists in plain
text format.
This past year has been a difficult one for many people, myself included.
Hopefully we can move ahead, make new discoveries, find family, and break
down those brick walls.
Therefore at this time, to begin the new year, I would like to open up
this first week of January to a roll call.
Please remember when responding, DO NOT just put roll call in the subject
line. You do not have to mention roll call at all, use that valuable space
for a name, location, or date if you have it.
Ok, let's post our queries!
Best Wishes and Happy Hunting,
Deah

Happy New Year everyone! As we begin a new year I thought this would be a
good time to go over a few things for the list.
If you are not sure what lists you are subscribed to, then go to Password
Central http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ and fill out the applicable
boxes for the information that you need.
When requesting information about which lists you are subscribed to, you
will quickly receive a reply naming all those lists, the address used to
post to the lists, and instructions as to how to unsubscribe from them.
Remember when sending messages, if they are sent to the -request address
they are not being posted to the list. They will only come here to me.
Addresses that contain the word "request" are only used for subscribing and
unsubscribing.
Also many times you will see a post from the message boards that is
"gatewayed" to many of the lists. A good portion of those who post to the
message boards do not subscribe to the lists. So if you reply via the list
regarding a board post, chances are good that the person you are trying to
respond to will not see your response. It is best to go to the board and
post your response there.
If by chance the person that posted does happen to also subscribe to the
list, they will still see your response.
If you wish to unsubscribe and are having problems, please do not send a
rude message to the list. It will get you unsubscribed, manually by me, but
also blocked from subscribing in the future. This is one instance when going
to Password Central is very helpful, and will save both you and me some
concern.
Or send me a note and ask for help, I don't mind a bit, and gladly will
help anyone that needs it. I realize things can be confusing at times.
Also, please know that although you don't always see me, I am here and
watching over you. If an issue arises on the list, I will take care of it
one-on-one in private with that individual or indivuals.

Merry meet and merry part and merry meet again, so someone that speaks my language. That is great, I really think that is why my spirit guides are calling me to union county. Iam making a trip this thursday to check things out and to meet with a good friend. i have been thinking of moving to union county for the past year now. i do know this that i have a marriage certifacate. Charles Andrew Beard married to Ida Ballard in 1898. They where married September 17 at the justice of the peace in Missouri. He would be my great grandfather. I dont know when they put the i in our name or if it was a miss print. But looking at the cherokee archives the name Beard was a common one. Would really enjoy talking with you some more. I also know that is where iam getting my beliefs from is the cherokee side of the family. And iam so interesting in growing and understanding more of my ancesters with the way they lived and believed. Many bright blessings. Always remeber to dance with the star!
