The following is a list of what the Union County Public Library has on microfilm concerning NEWSPAPERS.
This is the same thing the Indiana Hist. Soc. has and more than what the local newspaper has in it's collection.

Dear researchers of Union County:
I hope that someone there may be able to help me. I am searching for
John Perkins and CeCelia Perkins from Liberty, Indiana. They are buried in
Calvary Cemetery and John's tombstone reads 1855-1839 and CeCelia reads
1857-1943. Would there be any obituaries in your papers at that time? I
hope that they are related to my family of Francis and Margaret Perkins who
lived in Union County from 1850? To 1865. Any information would be of
great help.
Sincerely
Kevin E. Perkins

I found the following that seems to match your family;
AMOS M. SHEAFER
Mr. SHEAFER is a native of the neighboring state of Ohio and was born near the town of Eaton in Preble County, March 3, 1831. The SHEAFER family is of German origin in Pennsylvania. The mother of our subject was a DOUGLAS, of Scotch descent. In his early manhood in Preble County, Mr. SHEAFER served an apprenticeship to the trade of millwright and has worked at that and the carpenter's trade all his life. When the civil war came on he enlisted as a member of the Fifty-fourth Ohio Volunteer Infantry and was in the service three years, participating in many of the prominent engagements of the war. This regiment entered the service thirteen hundred strong and came out at the close of the conflict with less than three hundred; was with Sherman's brigade at Shiloh, where it was conspicuous for gallant service rendered. Throughout the whole of his army life Mr. SHEAFER was never sick a day and was never absent from his command. His record before and since the war has, indee!
d, been remarkable, as he has never been sick in bed a week in his life. Mr. SHEAFER is a member of Devall Post, G.A.R., and has been a life-long Republican.
In 1875 Mr. SHEAFER came to Liberty, Indiana to install the machinery for the Rude Manufacturing Company and was for two years in the employ of that firm. He conducted a planing-mill business, turning out interior finishing work, sash, doors, etc., The enterprise being one of importance in connection with the industrial activities of the locality. He conducted this business from 1887 to 1897, disposing of the same in 1896 to WILSON POTENGER who continued operations for two years, when he was compelled to return the property to the control of Mr. SHEAFER, who later sold out to Hull & Jones.
He was married April 15, 1852, to Miss ELIZA ROBENSON who was born and reared in the same neighborhood in Preble County, Ohio in which he was and who was one of his early schoolmates. They had a family of six daughters and one son, namely:
MAGGIE, wife of J. B. NICKUM, Superintendent of the gas works at Liberty;
MARY FRANCES, who married GEORGE W. RUDE, of whom further mention is made on another page of this work;
NAOMI, wife of HENRY CULLEY, died in Kansas one year after her marriage;
BELLE, wife of GEORGE W. WRAY, agent for the Chicago, Hamilton & Dayton Railroad, at Oxford, Ohio;
IDA, who married DANIEL POODER, a machinist at Rude's Mill;
ANNE, at home; and
WILLIAM, a resident of Liberty.
Mr. SHEAFER has three grandchildren, BERTHA and MARY RUDE and LIDA SHEAFER, who reside with their grandfather.
My Grandmother, Mary Mittie Brim, married Elijah Toler. I have no further information on her. Elijah was born April 3, 1869 and died February 27. 1935. I would like information on either or both of them.

There are TWO silver creek cemeteries.
1) The BIG one is a Christian Cemetery. It is located in Liberty Twp. on a hill behind a subdivision.
2) The Silver Creek Friends or FOSDICK Farm is located 1 - 1 1/2 miles south of Liberty off of SR 101 onto Fosdick Road. According to residents the stones
have been pulled and the cemetery has been plowed.
3) Salem Friends is US 27 South of Liberty 3 1/2 - 4 miles to the Salem Road
at Lotus aprox. 1 mile south to the church / graveyard

There was a newspaper here in the 1820's...I believe there is only one existing paper from that era. Then there is one from the 1850's. Then through all but the final year of the Civil War. From then on they are very scattered until 1932 when complete issues start. There are entire years without an existing paper. All known papers have been microfilmed by the Indiana Historical Society. You may be able to ILL these newspapers, I have never tried.
Now if you are looking for an obit, good luck. It seems they were more interested in National and state news than local.

Dear Ave, thanks for looking for Muriel Beard and for your response. Even though the information is disappointing, it is better to know for sure that Muriel isn't buried there. I'll find her some day. The W.J. Isaacs buried there is my great grandfather. Muriel was one of his daughters. Nancy
The Union County does have some of the Liberty paper on film. Parts of it
are missing. I don't when the first copies were published.

This was a great help. We found some of the burials we were looking for in
the Silver Creek Cemetery and the large cemetery in Liberty, but could not
find this couple. Could you tell me if the Friends Cemetery is in Liberty?
Thanks a lot, Janetta

I have the book in hand.
The only KELLY is the Jospeh Kelly family and there is no WILLIS or HOLLINGSWORTH mentioned in that section.
There are no HOLLINGSWORTH names listed.
It is one of those books you had to submit a family in order for it to be printed.
Sorry
Ave

Hi,
I check my book on the Indiana Gore, according to the record James Patty was
in the Indiana Militia first under Capt Frederick Shults' Co. succeeded by
Capt Joseph D. Clements. Page 11, this was listed under Franklin Co., there
are no land records listed for him. Beverly
