Hi, I have been there as well, checking on the Millers. I wonder if the library in Liberty has early records of the Crawford Cemetery there? Also, many of the same families are in the College Corner, IN, Union County, Indiana, Cemetery. Would that cemetery have records for that Crawford Cemetery? Edra Witter (Mrs. Robert Witter) keeps those College Corner records.

In trying to help people locate their deceased...I was told about this obscure cemetery on a wooded hillside, from a lady in town. I went there...and am currently compiling a list of names, dates, etc. There is a black iron gate at the road with a plaque on it that reads: Crawford Cemetery (Deeded by Martin Miller 1866), in memory of "Cassie" Miller. You travel up a mowed pathway to the top of the wooded hillside...to find a lovely OLD cemetery. Very peaceful. Not sure who is doing the mowing though. I'll try to find that out also, as they may have more information about the cemetery. It is located on Brookville Road (off US27), just outside of Oxford, Ohio (across the state line into Indiana).
Some of the stones are unreadable, some are just "torn-up", and some have no names or dates on them at all (just a plain stone) ...but I will do the best I can. In the meantime, if someone is looking for something in particular, please contact me and I will do my best to help. My best guess would be that there are about 50 or more graves (but won't be sure till I can spend some time there).
Just today (my first visit there), I found some of the following surnames in the first row alone:
Miller
Dubois
Lewis
Bradley
Meredith
I will post a follow-up with all surnames after my next visit there (within a month, if not sooner).
God Bless,
Pam DeWitt
Thank you for your help!!!!!!!!!!!! I just know this is the family I have been hunting for now all I have to do is find them in the 1900 Indiana Census and the 1870,1860 and 1850 census too Thank you for finding them! Charlotte Jane was married to Isaac Stephens in 1872 then he must have died so she decided to live with her parents. Then in 1886 she married a civil war soldier George Rowe so may be her parents lived with her in 1900 since they would have been in their 70s. THANK YOU AGAIN FOR YOUR HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jama
Hi,
Looking for information about Albert Norman, who was married to Eliza Foster, daughter of William B. & Mary P. Foster. William & Mary Foster moved to Indiana from Boone Co., Ky. ca. 1900. Albert Norman & Eliza Foster married ca. 1899/1900, probably in Kentucky.
Is anyone researching the Foster or Norman families of Union Co., Ky.?
Appreciate any tips, info, or hints.
Thanks.

There is no indication that the Thomas Jefferson Johns in my line was anything other than a farmer. This family is probably related but I'm not sure how.
I am searching for Thomas Harvey and Sarah Brown who may have married on Nov.14,1852 in Union Co., Indiana. They may be my 3rd great-grandparents. They had 3 children: Henry,Charlotte Jane, and Charles William. Charlotte and Charles are said to have been born in Franklin Co.,Indiana. Any information will muchly appreaciated!!!! contact me at bufordupperman(a)aol.com
Could someone please check the 1860 Union Co., Harrison Twp. IN. census, pg. 382 for EDWARD SANDFORD? Please reply back to: lharbing(a)worldnet.att.net thanking you in advance.
Hope this is of some help to you. I have this info from the 1850 census
Center Twsp, Union Co, IN
William [L or S] Johns, age 44 Farmer
[L or S] D Johns, f, age 36
Martha Johns age 28
Rhoda E Johns age 24
Thomas Morris age 37 Laborer
Issac WIlliams age16
James Busby age 9
Thomas Johns age 29 [either a lawyer or a sawyer]
All born in Ohio, except James Busby, my great-grandfather, who was born there in Union Co, Indiana.
I am fairly sure the capital letters in question are actually 'L' in the case of William L and Lawyer and 'S' in the case of S.D. Johns, but in this enumerator's handwriting S and L are almost identical. ??
Is this your Thomas Jefferson Johns? If so, can you shed any light on why my James Busby may have been living with this family?

My father gave me an album of sorts from some sort of Liberty celebration,

family. Do you know, if she was?
Thanks so much for the reply!

Handwritten date on article is Jan 3d, 1913.
After an illness of many weeks due to old age, Steven (sic) Ward, a well known citizen died last Friday night. Two sons, A. F. Ward and Charles of California; and a daughter, Flora, and the widow survive him. He was for many years a prosperous farmer of Montgomery County and about 20 years ago retired to Darlington and a little later came here where they have ever since lived. He was a member of the Christian church at Darlington and was buried at that place Monday.
(From Thorntown, Boone County, Indiana obits. Stephen Ward is son of David Genung Ward and Eleanor LaFuze Ward, born in Union County, Indiana. Widow is Eliza Adaline Burdette Ward.)
Mrs. Stephen Ward
Adalene (sic) Burdette was born and reared near Pendleton, Indiana, April 5, 1838, and passed away at her home here on South Pearl street, Monday, July 5, 1920.
She joined the M. E. church at fifteen years of age.
In August 1855 she was united in marriage with Stephen Ward. His death occured January 3, 1913. To this union were born four children. One daughter Rose, died November 3, 1889. The three surviving are as follows: Ambrose F. of Thorntown, Mrs. Florence Woody of Chicago, and Charles of Los Angeles, Cal.
Most of the married life of Mr. and Mrs. Ward was spent in Montgomery and Boone counties. In 1858 they united with the First Christian church of Darlington and she retained her membership there until the time of her death.
Long residence in Thorntown had given her a wide acquaintance and she was highly esteemed and will be long remembered for her good qualities. Death was due to cancer, and followed a lingering illness which was borne with great tortitude.
Services were conducted at the home on Pearl street Wednesday morning at ten o'clock, with Rev. Hugh N. Ronald of the Presbyterian church officiation. Interment at the Darlington cemetery.

"Aunt Sallie" Beard, 97, Taken by Death at Liberty
Liberty, Ind - "Aunt Sallie" Beard, 97 years old, Union county's oldest resident, died Tuesday morning at her home in Liberty. She was born Mar. 3, 1845, on a farm on the Billingsville road near Hannah's Creek and had spent her entire life in this vicinity.
A large portion of her childhood was spent in covered wagon days. She had seen the town of Liberty grown from a few houses to its present size. She had recalled the time the town was started near her home between here and Billingsville but was moved to its present locality because of the better topography of the land.
At the age of 16 years she married Elliot Beard, a schoolmate, who resided within a few miles of the Beard home. They had two children, Anna Beard and Mrs. Minnie McMahan, both survivors. Anna lived with her mother here at the time of her death.
"Aunt Sallie's" father, John McCreary, operated his home as one of the old underground railroad stations just prior to the Civil War.
Remembers Stagecoaches
In an interview on her ninety-sixth birthday anniversary, she had said:
"I remember the old stagecoaches with the luggage piled on top going past our house and stopping near our place to change horses. They always were drawn by four horses. This was a coach which traveled from Hamilton to Connersville. At that time there was no direct road from Richmond to Liberty and this route was the only main one through this community."
Survivors are two daughters, Anna, at home, and Mrs. Minnie McMahan of liberty; five grandchildren, Mrs. Irene O'Byrne of Lake Wales, Fla., Mrs. Elsie Temple of Des Moines, Iowa, Mrs. Esther Young of Grosport, Miss., Mary McMahan of Liberty, and Allen McMahan of Fort Wayne; eight grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Friends may call at the home after noon Wednesday.
Funeral services will be held in the Edwards Memorial church Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. Rolland Dove officiating. Interment will be at the West Point cemetery.
