I do not have the Brownsville Township Cemetery Listing in front of me, but I do know for a fact that there is NO Morris family cemetery in Brownsville Township. There is NO Morris family cemetery in Union County, as the matter of fact.
With the name "Sidneyann" about what year are we talking? This seems an uncommon name for the 1800's. The only active cemeteries in Brownsville Township are: Brownsville Methodist and Richland. Ones that ceased in the 20th century are Woods Chapel and I believe Brownsville Christian. Philomath, Fosher, Ceder Grove, Ranck, Patterson and a few others I just can not remember have all been abandoned and unused since the mid to late 1800's.
I'll check for the names tomorrow, but the two cemetery surveys for Union County, the surveyers stopped with tombstones that were in the early 1900's such as 1905 and 1907. There has not been a recent survey and there are about 100 years of tombstones unread in Union County.

The Logue / Gardner's along with the Barnard, Stanton, Starbuck, Macy are what we call the "Nantucket" settlement. It would be just East of Liberty in the Salem community. These names, as well as these people are Quaker. Julian Logue and his wife still live in the Logue family home that was part of the Underground Railroad. They were in thick with Levi Coffin the main "Conducter" of the Railroad in this area of Indiana.
You may wish to contact Earlham College in Richmond. This is a depositroy for Quaker Documents in the area. If not you can not find anything there, then I'll see what I can "dig up".

My g(2)-grandfather was ELISHA SMITH LOGUE. He was born January 4, 1817 in Guilford Co. NC, and died November 12, 1877 in Union Co., IN. He married LYDIA GARDNER September 26, 1839 in Union Co., IN. Lydia was the daughter of PAUL GARDNER and REBECCA FOLGER. She was born August 6, 1819 in Union Co., IN, and died October 15, 1912 in Union Co., IN. I am currently looking for information about Elisha Logue's father. I have a copy of a page from a document that Janice Logue of Dayton, OH identifies as "a Gardner paper from Nantucket". The upper right hand corner has a large number 323 which I assume is the page number. On line 10 the following information appears: "August 6, 1819 Lydia md Elisha Smith Logue son of William H." The name William H. is a guess on my part. The script handwriting is almost illegible. I would like to know if there is any information available other than this document about the father of Elisha Smith Logue.

"Farther east, at the crossing of what are now CONTRERAS and STONE ROADs was a village called CHarlottesville. It appears on county maps though the last house was demolished in 1986. Between Stone Road and the C&O tracks on the north side were houses, barns, sheds and privys of Malone (Johnny), Pavis; Curry (Thomas) and Miller (Harvey). Across the road was the Blacker buildings. The saw mill of Harvey Miller was on the southwest corner of Contreras and Stone Road and south of the mill a family of Wilsons lived. All along the east side of Stone road for years cabbage roses and road side lilies bloomed. There must have been houses there. People trailing boats, on their way to Brookville Lake, stop to inquire in this year of 1988 "Have we passed through Charlottsville yet?"

There is a very small area in Union county by that name. As I recall it is
in the south east quarter of the county.

I am searching for information on William Morris who came to Union County
just prior to 1840 from Cass County, MI.
I wonder if anyone on the list has any information about his children -
where they went and the names of the ones born prior to 1840. Also, does
anyone know where William and his first and second wives are buried? The
wives should be Sidneyann and Elizabeth.
Thank you,

John Davis's will is found in Will Book B., Union County Clerk's
office, Union County Court House, Liberty, Indiana.
At the time of the 1860 census, John W. Davis, aged 64, was living
with Johnson and Eliza J. Orr. John was born in New Jersey. Johnson
Orr was the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Orr. They were married
11 June 1853, Union County, Indiana. Eliza Jane was the daughter of John and Lydia Davis.
In the 1870 Federal Census for Union County, Indiana, John Davis,
aged 73, born in Maryland, a retired farmer was living with Jacob
and Mary Creek (Union Township). Jacob C. Creek, son of John and
Nancy A. Creek were married 3 April, 1856 in Union County, Indiana.
Mary (Davis) Creek was the daughter of John and Lydia (who died
in 1837) Davis. John Davis was the son of James and Mary Davis.
** John W. was probably married more than once, explanation **
I have come to the conclusion that John W. Davis may have been
married more than once. The evidence is:
1.Levi B. (Whom I suspect is John W.'s son) was born in 1822
2.John W. , jun., who was John W. sen.'s son was born in 1828
3.The tombstone for Lydia Davis clearly reads Died Feb. 18, 1837 Aged 26 yrs 2 mo & 4 ds
4.If Levi B. was indeed John W's son, then Lydia would have been
11 at the time of his birth, however, if Levi B. is NOT John W.'s
son and John W. jun. is the eldest, then Lydia would have been
16 when she married John W. and 17 when John W. jun. was born.
5.If Levi B. is John W.'s son, then the gap between Levi B. and
John W. jun. would be sufficient for the widower to grieve and remarry.

MAN MISSING
We understand the Isaac Davis, who resides in the vicinity of Billingsville, disappeared from family and friends on Friday last and has not since been heard of. Ath the time of his leaving he was suffering, it is supposed, under mental aberration. His mind has been in a deranged state for some time, as we ar informed, but his family did not think hism seriously deranged state as to require watching. we are convinced that Mr. D.'s mind was disordered, when he came to our office at the close of last year, to discontinue his paper. We than talked to him for some time, and came to the conclusion that he was not as one clothed in his right mind.
P.S. -- After the above was in type, we saw and convered with Mr. John Davis Sr., who informed us that Isaac was found on Monday last in a hole which he had dug under a hay stack. He was alive, but certainly had experienced great suffering from thirst and hunger
24th April
Suicide
On Saturday, last, the Sheriff of this county, Mr. Bradenburg, appeared at the Insane Hospital, in Indianapolis with Isaac Davis, (whose singular conduct we noticed a week or two ago) and gave him into the keeping of the officers of that institution. This was at 1 o'clock and at 4 P.M. Mr. Davis was found dead in his room, having committed suicide by hanging himself. Unlike most men berift of reason, Mr. D. was dangerous to no one but himself. It was a constatn dread on the minds of family and friends that he would make way with his own life, and for this reason he was sent to Indianapolis, where it was to be expected he woul drecieve that attention which would prefent him from injuring himself. But in this all were disappointed, and through culpable negligence on the part of the officers of the Hospital, he was permitted to hill himself in three hours after he was placed under their charge. Was the like ever heard of before? A man committing suicide in an institutio!
n where men are paid for preventing such an occurrence- and that too, in three hours after he arrived at the institution? We confess our shame that Indiana should have an institution conducted in such an outragious manner, and we trust, for the sake of the State, that an investigation of this matter will be had, and the officers punished in such a manner as will bring about reform in the management of the Hospital.
At 6 PM, the same day, Sheriff B., who was still in the city, received information of the occurrence and placing the body in a coffin, brought it back to the relatives of the deceased. He arrived here the next day at noon.
The Coroner's jury at Indianapolis rendered a verdict of "came to his death by placing a small coil around his neck and suspending himself from a small curtain hook, about four and a half feet from the floor."
