i also have family buried here, i have been to this cemetery as it at one
time set on my grandparents land. it is a small cemetery but in good shape.
it sits on a slight hill off the road with corn fields around it. the lane
leading back to it has huge oak trees lining the drive, and there are lilies
planted everywhere. i would be happy to get photos if you would like at no
cost since my family is also there.
i have moore's and wood's and Mc Carty's along with a few other lines.
our family also grew up with the story about the Indians living near there
but i do know that by the time my grandfather bought the land in about 1848
or so it was farming land. and a lot of the land around there had been bought
when the government opened up the land for sale. in or about 1830 to 1840.
i was told that the area northeast of there in the upper part of tipton co ,
around windfall contained more Indians and did not open up for sale until
after the area around sandbank, i know that my great great grandparents lived
with the Indians near there when it was still indian land and my great
grandfather became a medicine man with the Indians near windfall. we were
always told that the area between windfall in tipton co and howard co was an
area where a lot of Indians lived until the 1880s i have not taken the time
to check out this info but is was documented in my great grandfathers notes
and journals.
