Fran:
I am more confused that ever and with the Longfellow family out of Delaware that is not
hard. I show that James and Nancy Overman were married in Randolph County Indiana on 8
June 1820 from index material on the Indiana State Library website. I have their children
as Thomas born about 1823, Julia A. born 11 April 1829; Zebulan born 1832, Jane born about
1836, Matilda born about 1838 and James Albert born about July 1839. This material is
from the census records. I understand that Joseph's father was a John and that with
the Longfellow naming traditions that John is the son in the 1830 and 1840 census that I
have not been able to account for. James Albert is living at home in 1850 and 1860 census
so he is not the James in the 1850 census. Is the child named Zebulan in the 1850 census
Cornelius later on?
My husband's line of Stephen(s)/Stevens and allied lines marry in and out of the
Delaware family more than a dozen times and I am working this line to try to figure out
who is who and how are they related. I have currently documented with primary and strong
secondary sources about 1500 people in this family and about 450 marriages. So until I
can untangle this group of people, I won't know how you and my husband are related but
I am sure that you are kin as my southern Indiana roots would say. Yes, my husband and I
are distantly related and we didn't know until we started his genealogy. I can use
any help that you are willing to give and I have quite a bit on John Jr and Mary Harmon -
James parents and their other children that I am willing to share. I also have a lot on
John Jr.'s brother Elijah who married Elizabeth Badger that I am willing to share.
Sincerely,
Maggie Jones
