You should find a lot of material in the Tipton Library about the German prisoner of war
camps in WW II. My husband and friends tell of being in school at the Windfall High
School and looking out the windows watching the Germans who were camped next door to the
school. Most were so glad to be here there were very few problems and the citizens did
not fear them. The camp at Tipton provided workers for the fields to harvest tomatoes and
peas at the Stokely Van Camp canning factory. For the most part they were tall, blond
good looking men and some were excellent cooks. When we read about the conditions in
other prison camps during the wars this may seem strange to the younger generation.
