Sarah Wilks was born 1850 in Indiana, married John Wolford, moved to Nebraska
after the Civil War, died 1918.
Sarah has been illusive. Her parents do not appear in any Tipton County
census and her own census replies state she was born in Tipton County.
(State records back then did not require a birth certificate) The name is
sometimes spelled as Wilkes.
The 1900 Nebraska census states her father was born in Pennsylvania and her
mother was born in Kentucky. A newspaper article leads to the idea she was
orphaned and raised in the house of Julia (Wolford) and William Wimer.
Perhaps that is where John met her.
Anyone heard of the Indiana Wilks family?
