Prominent Elwood Citizen Passed Away Last Night
Funeral Sunday Afternoon at 1 O'clock Under Auspices of the K of P
Lodge.
This morning at 1 o'clock occured the death of James Adams, one of Elwood's
prominent and most respected citizens, after a lingering illness of the dreaded disease,
comsumption. It has been a battle between life and death with him for several days and
his demise has been hourly expected.
The deceased was born and reared in Henry County, this state, and came to this county
about thirty years ago and has resided in and near Elwood ever since.
He has been a prominent factor in the business interests of the city and has
accumuiated considerable wealth. His health having failed him two years ago, he went to
California, hoping the change of climate woulkd prove benefical to him. For a time he felt
hopeful of the results, but the dreaded malady had fastened its grip upon him and could
not be shaken off.
The deceased was a prominent member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge of tis city, who
will have charge of the funeral arrangements, which will occur at the family residence,
followed by interment in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery southwest of the city.
The deceased leaves a wife, and three children to morn his loss.
