Nancy, your Rachel Garner was a sister of my husband's ancestors Margaret F and Eliza
Ann Garner, all daughters of John H and Elvira (Applegate) Garner.
Where was your Rachel residing when she died? The 1860 census for Tipton co, Liberty twp
p 78 shows John,42, b AL, Elvira, 40, b MO, Eliza A. 16, Rachel, 14, Margaret F 10 (?),
Abalney, Amanda E and John A, all ch b IN.
I found them in the 1850 census in Clinton co, Honey Creek twp, p 392, hh111 as follows:
John H, 31, b OH, Elvira, 28, b KY, Marilda, 13, Nancy J, 11, Eunis, 8, Eliza A, 6,
Rachael 4, Sarah M 2, and Margaret one month, all b IN. Margaret F Garner Stout's
death record or obit ( I'd have to check which) said she was born 1847 at Russiaville,
which is in the part of present day Howard county that was part of Clinton co until
sometime after 1850. I'm sure this is the same family.
Have you found any info on Elvira Applegate Garner's parents, or where in KY she was
born? I'm working on that now.
Also, Rachel's sister and my line's Elizabeth Ann Garner said on several censuses
that she was born in Missouri in 1843. Do you know where your Rachel was born? Do you have
any idea about where in Missouri the Garners may have gone for those few years? Job
Garner, brother of John's father Henry Garner, went to Grundy co MO around 1858
according to some Garner information I found. Any ideas? Have you any info on JOhn H and
Elvira Garner's death and burial? The last I find John alive is in April 1875 when he
gave consent for 15 yr old daughter Mary E to marry Jeremiah Browning, Tipton co mar
liscence, book 4,p 319. No will or probate info that I could find. YOu never know, he/she
could've died visiting her in another location, but haven't found where
they're buried...
YOu don't know of any photos of John or Elvira, do you?
Hope this helps, and glad to hook up with you. RuthAnn.
