Hello Tipton County list !
I have just joined your list, in hopes of finding out some
information on my great-great grandfather, Lewis Craig.
It took my cousin a trip to Salt Lake City, to dig through
the Mormon records to find out that Lewis, his wife
Margaret A., and 9 month old daughter Mary appeared in
the 1850 Tipton County, Indiana U.S. Census. So since
then, I have been doing what I can to find other
information that might help my cousin and I find out more
on our Craig line. I was hoping someone on the list here
would also be researching Craig's. I'm also thinking that
Lewis and his family went to Tipton County, Indiana, to
be with other Craig family members. I scanned the on
line marriage records, and found a Mary Craig, who
married a Jesse Horton in 1851. So, even though there
were no other Craig's that appeared on the 1850 Census
there in Tipton County, Mary (and I'm assuming her family)
arrived sometime between the end of the 1850 census and
1-11-1851 (Mary and Jesse's marriage date).(Taken from
Indiana State Library Genealogy Division "C-D" Indiana
Marriages through 1850. Book 1 pg 100)
I'm afraid Lewis and his family did not stay too long in
Tipton County (Liberty Township). He and his family moved
back to Preble County, Ohio. My cousin and I are also
wondering why he and his family moved back. At this point
in time, we are thinking that maybe Margaret wanted to
have her next child (Benjamin) at her parents home in Preble
County, Ohio. Maybe the Farming wasn't too good and things
were not working out for them. Who knows ????
Margaret's maiden name was Bulger. Her
parents were Thomas and Sarah Bulger from Virginia.
Margaret also had a brother named James, and a sister
named Susannah. I hope you don't think I'm giving you TOO
much info, but I want to put out as much as I can, in case
someone might recognize something.
Lewis ended up dying in 1858. From what, we don't know.
Can't even find out where he was buried. No death
certificate either. All the county here has is a death book
where they logged the names and date of death. That's it !!!
Lewis and Margaret had the following children :
Mary S. Craig 10yrs. Born in Ohio
B.F. Craig 9yrs. Born in Ohio
Thomas S. Craig 6yrs Born in Ohio
Amos M. Craig 3yrs Born in Ohio
Sarah F. Craig 1yrs Born in Ohio
(This info came from the 1860 Preble County, Ohio Federal
Census)
Hopefully, I've supplied enough info, not to be boring, but
enough information to as where someone who could
possibly be related might recognize something.
Anyone who might even have the slightest notion that
their line could possibly be related ..... Please get in

Maybe someone from the Horton Family that Jesse came
from that married that Mary Craig I had found.
Thanks for taking the time to read my posting !!!
