That's very interesting - our family had also found an old newspaper article in the
Tipton Daily Tribune about Commodore, written about the time of his death in 1926.
"Commodore Thomas, Whose Delirious Talk Revived Murder Story, Gone" was the
subtitle of the article. It went on to say that Commodore and his wife were accused of
murdering Aaron Burr, his wife's uncle, but that they were later vindicated when Aaron
showed up in Ohio and later in Virginia.
"Aaron Burr" was actually Anthony Warren Burr, born in 1831. Apparently,
Commodore and his wife were living with him when he made off with funds from Tipton County
and ran to Ohio and Virginia. Anthony finally returned to Indiana and changed his name
to "Aaron Burr". He settled in Shelby County and died in 1905 after a fall from
a roof.
It was thought when Anthony first ran off, that Commodore had murdered him and put
Anthony's body in a well. At the time of Anthony's death, the well was located on
the original John Burr farm, just west of the Prairieville School. There were plans to
excavate the well, but this was never carried out.
Thank you for your information.
