JOHN L. ROGERS DIES OF WOUNDS
Tipton Man, 22, Dead in Pacific
John ROGERS, 933 North Independence street, was notified last night by
the navy department that his son, John Luther ROGERS, JrrR., is dead of
gunshot wounds received in the performance of his duty somewhere in the
Pacific war area.
Young ROGERS, 22 years old, enlisted in the navy in June, 1942. He was
stationed at Great Lakes and then went to a naval base in South Carolina.
He went to sea in June, 1943, and had been on active duty in the Pacific
since that time.
The telegram recieved by his father follows :
The navy department deeply regrets to inform you that your son, John Luther
ROGERS, Jr., seaman first class, USNR, died of gunshot wound in the performance
of his duty and in the service of his country.
The department appreciates your great anxiety, but details are not now
available adn delay in receipt thereof must necessarily be expected.
His remains have been interred in Allied territory outside United States
pending cessation of hostilities. If further information is recieved you
will be promptly notified.
To prevent possible aid to our enemies, please do not divulge the name
of his ship or station. The department extends to you its sincerest sympathy
in your great loss.

John ROGERS was born in Tipton Co., IN., 06 Dec 1921, adn attended the
local schools. He graduated from high school in June 1940 and worked at
Delco-Remy's in Anderson until he enlisted in June 1942.
Mr. and Mrs. ROGERS have two (2) other sons in service, sam, who **
