My g-grandfather, WILLIAM SHAFFER, according to his death record, was born in
TIPTON CO., IN in July of 1868. Sometime before he was 16 (before about
1884) he was brought to CALDWELL Co. Missouri---by whom we don't know---but
it was not by his parents. It is said that he came with the DIDDLE family
(maybe DIBBLE?) One of them was named SARAH Diddle or Dibble.
He is buried by someone that is said to be related to him named WILLIAM
REAGAN. Onn REAGAN's tombstone it says Co. K Ind. Inf. (I assume that meands
Indiana Infantry?). Because WILLIAM SHAFFER didn't ever talk about his life
to his 11 children or his wife, we don't know much. Some say WILLIAM REAGAN
was a half brother. Since REAGAN served in the Civil War, he would have to
have been at least 15-20 years older than SHAFFER, so maybe an uncle? Also,
in the family bible, a man named AMSIE WARDEN or WORDEN is listed as a half
brother.
Anyone researching any of these families? I'd love to share!
