Frank Russell Succumbs in Tipton Hospital
Frank B. Russell, former judge of Tipton Circuit court and for years an
outstanding member of the community, died today at 10:10am in Tipton county
hospital following an illness of several months. He resided at 332 Independence
Street.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2pm Saturday at West Street Christian
church, with Rev. Norval Lyon officiating. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery.
The World War I veteran was born in Tipton Nov 4 1890, the son of James
W. and Nancy (Devaney)Russell. He attended Tipton schools and was admitted
to the bar in 1917. From 1911 to 1913 he served as court reporter. He entered
law practice with John P Kemp and had served as county and city attourney.
In 1933 he was appointed judge by Gov paul V. McNutt to fill the unexpired
term of Glenn Gilford. He was elected to that office in 1934 and again
in 1940. He was a candidate for state appelate court judge in 1944, and
had been actively engaged in law practice since 1946.
A member of state and county bar associations and state committee he was
also active in the American Legion, having served as post commander. He
was also a member of Elks, Moose, Modern Woodmen, and Masonic lodges, 40
and 8 and Kiwanis. For the past 25 years he had taught the Men's Bible
class of West Street Christian church, where he was an elder.
Attourney for the Tipton Building and Loan association and Farmers Loan
an dTrust company, he was also a director for the latter and a stockholder
in the Tipton Furniture Company.
On June 21, 1916, he married the former Miss Ruth Hettmansperger of Elwood,
and there were the parents of one son, James Charles Russell, of Anderson.
Surviving with the widow and son are three grandchildren, one sister, Mrs.
Fred Robertson, of Frankfort, and nieces and nephews. Three brothers preceded
him in death.
