I'm looking for information about Judge JOSEPH GORE (b. 1780-d. 1867) who
changed his surname to GOAR. His wives were 1. Martha Pine/Pyne, 2. Rachel
Swinney and 3. Louisa Meador.
I'd like to know something about his judgeship which I believe may have been
in Tipton. Does anyone have information or could you tell me where I can
find some?
Was there originally an Edward County? I don't see it on the map now, but I
know that he moved from Virginia to Tipton, Indiana. Any help would be
appreciated.

Surname: GOIN, GOINS
-------------------------
Am also very interested in the Tipton Goinses as part of a larger historical
project, tracking them from their old home in Patrick Co., Va. The Tipton
Goinses mostly descend from William & Prudence Goins/Going, who left Virginia
in the 1820s; counted in Shelby Co., KY, in 1830; in Hamilton Co., IN,
in 1840; and in Tipton in 1850 ff. A Hannah/Susannah Goings, presumably
William's or Prudence's sister, also accompanied them and had a family
of her own (no evidence she was ever married). Second-generation Goins
men in Tipton incl. Richard, Mitchell, Allen, Frederick, and Killis, all
of whom had families. After 1870 the family begins to drift out of the
county, although some were still living in the Windfall and Curtisville
neighborhoods as late as the 1920s. I'd also enjoy hearing from anyone
researching these folks. Snail-mail: P.O. Box 687, Yanceyville, NC 27379.

Surname: HOUSTON, SHOOK, MATHIS
-------------------------
I'm trying trace the roots of my g-grandmother Rachel HOUSTON, supposedly
born in Indiana in April of 1872. Her father was supposedly born in KY
and her mother in OH.
She was married to Willard Wesley SHOOK in Tipton Co. Indiana on 25 Mar
1895.
They had 3 children; Carrie; my grandmother, Hazel, and Roscoe. Willard
was born in Ripley Co. and Rachel may have been as well. I do know that
Carrie was born in Tipton Co. so that may be a possibility for Rachel's
birth.
My dad says that he was told by his grandfather that he, my dad, had Indian
blood in him. Supposedly, Carrie who married Phreno MATHIS, was 1/2 Indian.
Cherokee has been mentioned but there are a couple of other possibilities
but my searches of the region have come up with nothing. I'm really interested
in trying to validate this if anyone can help.
By the way, Rachel died between 12-14 Sep 1934 and is buried in Bunker
Hill Indiana.
I would really appreciate any leads on Rachels parents and siblings.
Sincerely
Bill Mathis

Surname: LOCKRIDGE, LAW, HANCOCK
-------------------------
Now, I'm a bit confused! I haven't really looked into my Zachary HANCOCK's
heritage too deeply (mainly because the HANCOCK line is related to me by
marriage). I think I'll have to go back and look at this more carefully.
I did most of my work on this person and his wife at the Tipton Co. (IN)
courthouse and public library. I am in that area on a regular basis (my
parents live about 15 min. from Tipton), so I should be able to look into
it sometime in the near future. I'll be sure to let you know what I find
out!
As for Thomas J. HANCOCK, I believe he married a sibling of one of my g-g-grandmothers,
a Mary LAW. Whether he was in the Civil War or not, I can't say--I really
haven't done that much research on him or his family.

Surname: LOCKRIDGE, LAW, MORRIS, HANCOCK, STAFFORD
-------------------------
I am researching the family of William Henry LOCKRIDGE (1820-1879), who
was married to Emily Jane LAW (1837-1897). This couple raised their family
of 10 in Jefferson Twp., Tipton Co., near Ekin, IN. Their children were:
Sarah (1857-?); Mary Jane (1859-?), who married Benjamin Z. MORRIS; James
Franklin (1861-1919), who married Mary E. STAFFORD (these two were my great-grandparents);
Eliza Malinda (1963-1899), who married Hiram A.J. MORRIS, then L. PHIFER;
Louisa (1867-1947), who married Zachary P. HANCOCK; Harvey A. (1870-1895);
Matilda A. (1873-?); Effie May (1975-1913), who married John S. STEWART;
and Isaac Hiram Andrew Jackson (1878-1966), who married Mary C. McCLURE.
I do have some information on most of these children and would be more
than happy to share it with whomever would like. As well, I would appreciate
any further information that anyone would like to share with me.

Surname: HANCOCK, LOCKRIDGE, LAW
-------------------------
I might have a connection for you. In my family research I have a Zachary
P. HANCOCK (1867-1918). He was married in 1887 to the sister of my great-grandfather.
Her name was Louisa LOCKRIDGE (1867-1947). They had 3 children that I know
of: Hattie M. (1889-1924), who married Earl Moody, then Clyde Hershman;
Mary Loral (1895-1967), who married Robert E. Cage; and Roland G. (1890-1890).
This Zachary HANCOCK's father was Thomas J. HANCOCK, who married Mary A.
LAW (1846-1922). They had 10 children: Zachary P.; Charles; Cora, who married
a BEY; E.E. (Capitola), who married a PRITCHARD; Frank; an infant; Millard;
Mollie, who married a MYERS; Thomas; and William.
Does any of this sound like what you're looking for? I'm afraid I don't
have much more on the HANCOCK family. But, I'm willing to share any information
I might have. Let me know.
There have several messages posting lately regarding the BOLDEN/BALDWIN
family (or other variations).
My ancestor, Margaret Myers BALDWIN, came with her husband, George W.
BALDWIN, to Prairie Township in 1851. His name is spelled in a variety of
ways on census and other documents. George BALDWIN was a member of the
Friends' Church. His parents were Samuel and Rebecca Baldwin. Two of the
sons of Margaret and George were Civil War veterans. I would be interested
in corresponding with researchers who have a connection to this family.
