Hi folks,
I hope you are all having a good summer and are keeping cool. Sure has
been hot here in Tippecanoe Co. for the past week or so.
I don't know - call me crazy - but a few weeks ago I began transcribing
the 1850 census. I started out by only transcribing Harrisonville in
Tippecanoe Township and then I thought - what the heck, I'll just do the
whole township. Well, that didn't take too long so I thought, well,
since Wabash was already done (thanks to Ginette VandenOever!), that
maybe I'd just do Shelby. Well, that only took a couple of days so I
decided to go ahead and finish the northern part of the county and
transcribed Washington. Since that much is done, might as well do the
whole thing! I'm hoping to have 2 or 3 more townships done in the next
couple of weeks. An everyname index is also being created.

The census wasn't too difficult to read, but some of the names and ages
did give me trouble and I have used a (?) when I couldn't make them
out.
This is a large project and will take some time to complete, the
population of Tippecanoe County in 1850 was a little over 19,000. If
anyone has access to the microfilm of this census and would like to help
with this project, just let me know.
Happy searching!
