Does anyone have easy access to marriage indexes or records for
Lafayette? I
am still struggling with my James STEVENS, (who d 1904 during trip to St.
Louis), and trying to find out who his wife is. Evidently, there were two
James STEVENSes in Lafayette, both b abt 1855, both having John STEVENS for
a father. One of them had a wife named Ella, but I can not find any mention
in index records for their marriage. I only found that one mention of a
James Stevens in Tippecanoe County through the LDS site's 1880 census index
(p. 268C). Problem is...which James is Ella's husband?
I am GUESSING that, if Ella were indeed my James' wife, then she would be a
widow by 1906, and the entry for a marriage betw Edward MAHER and Ella
STEVENS (b Feb 24, 1861) in 1906 would sound about right...as long as the
OTHER James STEVENS didn't also die bef '06 leaving a widow...
btw, my James has mother Catherine Kelly Stevens. The marriage entry for the
James Stevens m Feb 25, 1883 has mother listed as B. JOHNSON (book S-16, p.
280).
If anyone has any easy access to any records that could straighten out these
two Jameses so I know which one to claim for my own...I'd really appreciate
it!
