On the evening of Sept. 6, 2002, Kathryn (Kathy) Kirkpatrick passed away a few hours
before her 59th birthday, after a long illness.
Born Sept. 7, 1943, in Houston, Texas, she grew up in Cleveland, Tenn., where she
graduated from Bradley Central High School. She attended Ohio Wesleyan University, and
received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Louisville.
She taught special education in Louisville, Ky., and Cheyenne schools, initiating the
special education program in a Cheyenne high school. When she retired from teaching, she
contributed to her community by working with the WIC program and teaching adult education
classes in Cheyenne.
She was a member of Broad Street Methodist Church in Cleveland, Tenn., and the Pi Beta Phi
fraternity.
Kathy enjoyed traveling to many countries, attending jazz festivals, caring for her dog,
Misker, shopping sprees, and spending time with her friends. She made a deep impression on
all who knew her.
She is survived by her mother, Martha C. Kirkpatrick of Franklin, Tenn.; her sister, Julia
(Andrew) Peacock of Pittsburgh, Pa.; her niece, Laura Kathryn Peacock of Franklin, Tenn.;
her nephew, David (Jannette) Peacock of Pittsburgh, Pa.; her nephew, Bruce (Jessica)
Peacock of Richmond, Va.; her six grand-nieces and nephews, Sara Kathryn, Graham,
Harrison, Archer, Greer, and Hannah Peacock; and her many friends.
There was a private funeral. her ashes will be buried in Union Cemetery in Clarks Hill,
Ind., beside her father, J. Keith Kirkpatrick.
The family suggests contributions be made to the animal shelter in your community or a
charity of your choice.
Crawford Mortuary and Crematory in Nashville, Tenn., was in charge of arrangements.
