VESTALs and MOONEYs are/were both Friends (Quakers). There were two primary
routes for Friends leaving the slave states.
In the early 1800s, Friends traveled/settled through southeastern OH,
entering IN during the late 1820s & either settling or moving west into IL,
then KS (remember, MO allowed slavery).
Those leaving NC later, say 1825-1835, often took a more northerly route,
settling in Richmond, IN, then dispersing.
In addition to the HINSHAW volumes already mentioned, please check the HEISS
volumes, _Abstracts of the Records of The Society of Friends in Indiana_.

You say you have a lot of information on the Mooneys, I have been
searching for a
long time for infomation on my father, his name Dallas Coy
or Carl Mooney and his family. His fathers name was Richard Mooney and
mother name Julie, maiden name Vestal. I have done nothing but hit brick
walls and can fine nothing. They were supposely from NC. Any information
would be much appreciated
