No, this book definitely wasn't from the 19th Century. It was published in 1980. It
includes several Ridg(e)way families, and the section on descendants of Samuel b ca 1688
runs perhaps 20 pages in all. This is the shortest section in the book, which is close to
3 inches thick. Much of the information on earier generations is spotty, to say the least.
I must have had my eyes half closed yesterday, because William wasn't Rachel's
father at all. James was. According to the book, Joshua had no son William. Joshua's
father was William, and William was the son of Samuel.
Here is what the book says about William. He died intestate in 1760 in Queen Anne County,
Maryland. He first married Margaret (--), no date given. they had:
1. John
2. James b 3 May 1740
3. Joshua [who married Rachel Davis]
4. Sarah
5. Margaret
6. Josiah
7. Parthenia
William married, second, Mary Ferrill on 11 May 1749. They had:
1. Samuel
William married, third, Mary Bostick on 20 Jan 1752. They had:
1. Zodohiah/Zedekiah
2. Thomas
3. Frances
4. Lucinda
5. Mary
6. William
7. Nathan
Mary Bostick was married by 1769 to a William Swift.
The book says that William did not move, the county boundaries changed. This is apparently
in explanation of Samuel's will dated 23 Nov 1728 in Kent County, Maryland (Will
#1016).
By the way, the book gives no other dates for Samuel at all. The maiden name of his wife,
Sarah, is not given, but her second husband was Lewis Clothier.
There's a lot online concerning descendants of the James born 1740, but last time I
looked (which, admittedly, was months ago) there seemed to be some dispute about how this
James fit into the family. Some researchers didn't list him as the son of William. In
fact, I have the impression that a number of people listed him as part of another
Ridg(e)way family entirely.
This is all I have on the siblings of Joshua, and it's not much. I can't even
vouch for its accuracy, as I didn't do the research myself. (I haven't done
personal research in Tippecanoe County, either, but I hired it done and the researcher
sent me copies of the documents.)
Whatever else you find out, please let me know. I trace all descendants of my ancestors
and am always looking for "just one more cousin" (as we addicts are known for
whining, usually in a piteous tone...lol).
Now if I could just find John Snider/Snyder's family...
