I don't know how this case came out. There might be more about it in Lafayette
papers, especially if there was a trial of any kind.

MURDER IN LAFAYETTE
The Lafayette Journal states the particulars of a murder in that city on Saturday last, as
follows:
"Last Saturday night about 9 o'clock, John Clifford was shot and stabbed to death
by Ed. Fahnstock, on Main street in front of the 'Gem' Saloon, under the following
circumstances, as shown by the evidence produced before the Coroner's jury:
Dick Fahnstock, brother of the defendant, was in the Gem Saloon with the deceased and had
just finished a conversation with him, in regard to a form difficulty, when the defendant
entered and commenced talking of the same affair. Dick Fahnstock then remarked that the
matter had been settled and that it was not necessary to renew it. Some further words
were uttered and finally Ed. Fahnstock took off his coat and struck the deceased. Both of
them went out of doors where they had a scuffle, and Fahnstock then and there shot and
stabbed the deceased, who died immediately."
