(Lafayette, Indiana, Daily Courier, Wednesday, January 13, 1909, page 1) -- After an
illness of several months with a complication of diseases Louis Hoffman died at 7
o'clock last evening at the family residence at Chauncey Avenue and State street, West
Lafayette. He had been unconscious since last Saturday. Mr Hoffman was born in Germany,
October 14, 1830 and had lived here for thirty-eight years. He was a baker and was
employed by the late George Weigele for a great many years. He had lived in retirement
for the past ten years. Mr Hoffman was a veteran of the Civil War, being a member of the
Ninety-first Indiana, and had a splendid record as a soldier. He was a member of Marsh B
Taylor Post G. A. R. He was a member of the German Methodist church, and was a good
citizen. He was greatly devoted to is family and was held in high regard by all who knew
him. A widow and the following children survive: Benjamin and Louise Hoffman, of this
city; Mrs Mary Waltman, of Ter!
re Haute, and George Hoffman, of Atlanta, Ga. He leaves the following grand-children:
Miss Pearl Hoffman, Frank and Arthur Hoffman, of this city; Mrs Fred Riebel, of Pittsburg;
William H Waltman , of Terre Haute, and Mary Louise Hoffman, of Atlanta, Ga. The funeral
will be held from the residence to-morrow afternoon at 2 o’clock. Rev Herman Gelsen will
officiate and the interment will be in Springvale Cemetery.
