Hoffman, for many years a resident of Lafayette, and the mother of Ben Hoffman, of this
city died Saturday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs W. W. Waltman at Terre Haute.
She had been in a feeble condition for some time and her demise is attributed to the
infirmities of age. She was 82 years old and was the widow of Louis Hoffman, who for many
years was head of the bakery department of the Weigle bakery. Mrs Hoffman lived on the
West Side until three yeas ago, when she went to Terre Haute to make her home with her
daughter. Deceased was an earnest member of the German M. E. Church and during her long
life she was the author of many kind deeds. She is survived by two sons and one daughter
– Benjamin Hoffman, of this city; Mrs Waltman, of Terre Haute, and George Hoffman, of
Atlanta, Ga. Services were held at Terre Haute at 2 o’clock this afternoon, and the
remains wil!
l arrive here to-morrow morning at 11:30 o’clock over the Monon. The cortege will go at
once to Springvale cemetery, where the interment will be made. Rev J. J. Baechtold, of
the German M. E. church, will have charge of the services at the grave. Mrs Hoffman was
born at Rimbach, Hessedarm Stadt, the 28th of April, 1834. She came to this country when
19 years of age. She united with the Methodist church two years later, being an ardent
member all her life. On April 22, 1854, she was married to Louis Hoffman at Terre Haute,
moving to Lafayette forty-five years ago, and living here until three years ago, when she
went to make her home with her daughter.
