JACKSON, JOSEPH – (1842-1927) – Joseph Jackson, 85, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs
B. V. Craig, West Lafayette, at 8:30 o’clock Sunday morning. He was born at Arley,
Staffordshire, England, June 3, 1842 He came to America with his parents March 6, 1851,
the family settling at Manteno, Illinois, where he spent his boyhood. Mr Jackson joined
the 88th regiment of Illinois, known as the Board of Trade regiment, on September 4, 1862,
serving throughout the war and being discharged June 9, 1865, at Nashville, Tennessee.
Mr. Jackson received the rank of corporal in 1863 and fought in some of the important
battles of the war. After being discharged he came to White county and purchased land
west of Chalmers, where he lived until1903, when he moved to West Lafayette. He was a
member of West Side M. E. Church and for the past five years he has lived with his
daughter, Mrs B. V. Craig, at whose residence he died. Funeral services will be held
at!
the residence Tuesday afternoon, with burial in Grandview cemetery. He is survived by a
son, V. F. Jackson, of Wolcott, Indiana and daughter. Mrs B. V. Craig, of West Lafayette.
